And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Judging justly between two people is charity; helping a man with his mount is charity; letting someone ride on one's mount or loading his goods onto it is charity; a good word is charity; every step one walks towards the mosque is charity; and removing something harmful from the road is charity."

He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then let him help one in desperate need." They said: "If he does not do even that?" He said: "Then let him enjoin good." They said: "If he cannot do even that?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then let him refrain from evil, for that is indeed charity for him."

Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed every human being among the children of Adam has been created with three hundred and sixty joints. Whoever says 'Allahu akbar' (extols Allah's greatness), 'Alhamdu lillah' (praises and lauds Him), 'La ilaha illallah' (declares that there is no god but Allah), 'Subhan Allah' (glorifies Allah), and 'Astaghfirullah' (seeks Allah's forgiveness), and removes a stone or a thorn from people's path, or enjoins good or forbids evil, this will equal giving charity for the three hundred and sixty joints, so he will reach the evening that day having saved himself from the Fire."

Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said that some of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "The people of wealth have surpassed us in reward, for they pray as we pray, they fast as we fast, and they give charity from their surplus wealth." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Has Allah not made for you something with which you can give charity? Every glorification (tasbih) is charity, every takbir is charity, every tahlil and tahmid is charity, enjoining good is charity, forbidding evil is charity, and even in the intimate relations of one of you there is charity." They said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when one of us fulfils his desire, is that charity and is there a reward for him?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If he were to place it in something unlawful, would there not be a sin upon him?" They said: "Of course." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Likewise, when he places it in what is lawful, there will be a reward for him."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Envy is not permissible towards anyone except two persons: a man whom Allah has taught the Qur'an, and he recites it in the hours of the night and the day; his neighbour hears him and says: 'Would that I were given what so-and-so has been given, then I would act as he acts.' And a man to whom Allah has given wealth, and he keeps spending it where it is due (in the right); then a man says: 'Would that I were given the like of what so-and-so has been given, then I would act as he acts.'"

Sayyiduna Abu Kabshah al-Anmari (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out before us a parable of this world, and gave the example of four men among us: "A person to whom Allah gave knowledge and also gave wealth, so he spends from his wealth in accordance with his knowledge; and a person to whom Allah gave knowledge but did not give wealth, so he says: 'If Allah were to give me the like of what He gave so-and-so, I would do with it just as he does,' so the two of them are equal in reward; and a person who was given wealth but has no knowledge, so he withholds it from its due and spends it in falsehood; and a person to whom Allah gave neither knowledge nor wealth, so he says: 'If Allah were to give me what so-and-so was given, I too would do with it just as so-and-so does,' so the two of them are equal in the burden (of sin)."
