Sayyiduna Shaddad bin al-Had (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man from among the Bedouins came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He believed and followed him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: I will emigrate with you. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) entrusted him to some of his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). When the Battle of Khaybar took place, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) obtained spoils, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed them and allotted a share for him too, and he gave his share to the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), as he used to tend their riding animals. When he came, the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) gave him that share, and he said: What is this? The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: This is a share which he (peace and blessings be upon him) has allotted to you. He took it, came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Muhammad, what is this? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is a share that I allotted to you." He said: It is not for this that I followed you; rather, I followed you so that I would be struck here (and he pointed to his throat) by an arrow, and die and enter Paradise. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "'In tasduqillaha yasduqka' (If you are true to Allah, He will be true to you)." Then they set out to fight the enemy, and then he was carried and brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the arrow had struck him exactly where he had pointed at his throat. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is this him?" The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Yes. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He was true to Allah, and Allah Almighty proved him true." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) shrouded him in his own clothing. Then he put him forward and offered his funeral prayer, and among what he supplicated clearly in the funeral prayer was: 'Allahumma hadha 'abduka kharaja muhajiran fi sabilika, qutila shahidan, ana 'alayhi shahid' (O Allah, this is Your servant; he went out as an emigrant in Your way and was killed as a martyr, and I am a witness to that).
Ata' says: They claim that he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not offer the funeral prayer over the people of Uhud. Al-Shaykh says: Ibn Jurayj mentions this from Ata'. It is possible that this man remained alive until the fighting ended, then he died and he (peace and blessings be upon him) offered his funeral prayer, while those over whom he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not offer the funeral prayer at Uhud had died before the fighting ended.

Abu al-Haytham (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that his father narrated that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say to Amir bin al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him) while travelling to Khaybar, and al-Akwa's name is Sinan: "O Ibn al-Akwa', dismount and chant the camel-driving song (huda) for us in your voice." So he dismounted and began reciting verses about the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): By Allah, had it not been for you, we would not have been guided, nor would we have given charity, nor prayed. So send down tranquillity (sakinah) upon us, and make us firm if we meet the enemy. Indeed, the sons of the disbelievers have transgressed against us; if they hope for shirk and disbelief from us, we refuse it.
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May your Lord have mercy on you." Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It has become due for him. By Allah, if only you had let us benefit from him! Then he was martyred in the Battle of Khaybar. According to what has reached us, his martyrdom came about in that his own sword turned back on him and wounded him severely, and he kept fighting until he died, and the Muslims fell into doubt about him, (thinking) that his own weapon had killed him. For this reason his nephew Salamah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him (peace and blessings be upon him) of what the people were saying, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is a martyr." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) and the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) offered the funeral prayer.

Thabit narrates from Abu Rafi' that he said: Abu Lu'lu'ah was the slave of al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him), and he narrated the whole hadith. He says: He made a two-headed dagger for him. When Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said the takbir, he struck him on his shoulder, then struck him in another place, and plunged the dagger into his side, and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) fell.
The account of the killing of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) has already passed in the established hadith from Husayn from Amr bin Maymun: that the Magian struck him with the dagger, and then whomever he passed, he stabbed those on his right and left. This is evidence that he was killed with a sharp-edged weapon; then he was washed, shrouded, and the funeral prayer was offered over him.

He says: A letter came from Abd al-Malik saying: Hand his body over to his family. I brought him to Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her), and she washed him, shrouded him and applied perfume (hanut) to him; then he was buried. Ayyub (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I think the narrator said that she lived only three days after that.
