Sayyiduna Shaddad bin al-Had (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man from among the Bedouins came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He believed and followed him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: I will emigrate with you. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) entrusted him to some of his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). When the Battle of Khaybar took place, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) obtained spoils, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed them and allotted a share for him too, and he gave his share to the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), as he used to tend their riding animals. When he came, the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) gave him that share, and he said: What is this? The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: This is a share which he (peace and blessings be upon him) has allotted to you. He took it, came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Muhammad, what is this? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is a share that I allotted to you." He said: It is not for this that I followed you; rather, I followed you so that I would be struck here (and he pointed to his throat) by an arrow, and die and enter Paradise. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "'In tasduqillaha yasduqka' (If you are true to Allah, He will be true to you)." Then they set out to fight the enemy, and then he was carried and brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the arrow had struck him exactly where he had pointed at his throat. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is this him?" The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: Yes. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He was true to Allah, and Allah Almighty proved him true." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) shrouded him in his own clothing. Then he put him forward and offered his funeral prayer, and among what he supplicated clearly in the funeral prayer was: 'Allahumma hadha 'abduka kharaja muhajiran fi sabilika, qutila shahidan, ana 'alayhi shahid' (O Allah, this is Your servant; he went out as an emigrant in Your way and was killed as a martyr, and I am a witness to that).
Ata' says: They claim that he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not offer the funeral prayer over the people of Uhud. Al-Shaykh says: Ibn Jurayj mentions this from Ata'. It is possible that this man remained alive until the fighting ended, then he died and he (peace and blessings be upon him) offered his funeral prayer, while those over whom he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not offer the funeral prayer at Uhud had died before the fighting ended.
