Yahya bin Abbad bin Abdullah bin al-Zubayr narrates from his father, and he from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him), in the story of the Battle of Uhud, that Shaddad bin al-Aswad, who was called Ibn Sha'ub, killed Hanzalah bin Abi Amir (may Allah be pleased with him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the angels have washed this companion of yours; ask his wife about him." She said: When he heard the cry of alarm, he went out while in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah). So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is why the angels washed him."
