(a) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) (the narrator thinking it was from him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him to give two-fifths of a dinar in charity. There is disagreement in its chain and its text.
(b) Al-Awza'i, with this same chain, narrates from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that he had a wife who disliked men. Whenever he wanted her, she would excuse herself with menstruation, and he thought she was lying. He came to her and found that she was telling the truth. Then he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered him "to give two-fifths of a dinar in charity."
It is munqati' (broken) between Abd al-Hamid and Umar.

Ata bin Ajlan is da'if (weak) and matruk (abandoned). It has also been narrated from him from Ata and Ikrimah from Ibn Abbas, and that is nothing. It is narrated from Ata and Ikrimah that there is nothing upon him; he should seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty. All these marfu' and mawquf reports go back to Ata al-Attar, Abd al-Hamid and Abd al-Karim Abu Umayyah, and they are open to question (they have been criticised). The Shaykh said: It has also been narrated as mawquf through Ibn Jurayj from Ata from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both); if it is preserved, then it is authentic as a statement of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).
Hadith Referenceالسنن الكبرى للبيهقي / كتاب الحيض / 1528

Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) writes in the book Ahkam al-Qur'an that whoever comes to his wife while she is menstruating, or after the blood has stopped while the woman has not yet taken the ritual bath, should seek forgiveness from Allah and not do it again until the woman becomes pure and prayer becomes permissible for her. Although some other reports have been narrated on this subject, if they were established we would take them (that is, act upon them), but (the hadiths) like it are not established.
