Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) concerning the man who comes to his wife while she is menstruating that "he shall give one dinar in charity, and if he does not find (a dinar), then half a dinar." Ata bin Ajlan is da'if (weak) and matruk (abandoned). It has also been narrated from him from Ata and Ikrimah from Ibn Abbas, and that is nothing. It is narrated from Ata and Ikrimah that there is nothing upon him; he should seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty. All these marfu' and mawquf reports go back to Ata al-Attar, Abd al-Hamid and Abd al-Karim Abu Umayyah, and they are open to question (they have been criticised). The Shaykh said: It has also been narrated as mawquf through Ibn Jurayj from Ata from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both); if it is preserved, then it is authentic as a statement of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both).
