Muhammad bin Amr bin Ata' said: I was with Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) in the house of Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) in the mosque. He began to express amazement at whoever claimed that ablution is due from what has been cooked on fire, and he began giving examples, saying: We used to bathe with heated water and perform ablution, and we used cooked oil.
He also mentioned other things that people used which had been cooked on fire. Then he said: I saw myself in this house with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution and then put on his clothes. The mu'adhdhin came, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) came for the prayer to the chamber, which was outside the house. Goat meat was presented to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) ate a morsel or two of it. Then he prayed and did not touch water.

(c) Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perform ablution from everything that fire has touched." Abu Abdullah al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Ablution is not to be performed, because in our view this is abrogated. Do you not know that Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) became a companion of him (peace and blessings be upon him) after the conquest of Makkah, and he narrates from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) ate a goat's shoulder, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed and did not perform ablution? In our view this is clear evidence that performing ablution is abrogated, or that he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered only washing the hands for cleanliness. What is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is that he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not perform ablution; and then Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them), Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), Amir bin Rabi'ah, Ubayy bin Ka'b and Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with them), all of them likewise did not perform ablution.
