It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): Should I perform ablution after eating goat meat? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you wish, do so, and if you do not wish, do not." Then he asked: Should I perform ablution after eating camel meat? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, perform ablution from camel meat." He said: May I pray in the folds of sheep and goats? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." Then he asked: May I pray in the resting places of camels? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No."
(b) Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We used to rinse our mouths after drinking camel's milk and not rinse them after drinking goat's milk, and we used to perform ablution after eating camel meat and not perform ablution after eating goat meat.
Ali bin al-Madini said that this Ja'far bin Abi Thawr is majhul (unknown); but since eminent narrators such as Simak bin Harb, Uthman bin Abdullah bin Mawhab and Ash'ath bin Abi al-Sha'tha' narrate from him, he is no longer majhul, and for this reason Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) included him in his Sahih.

Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about performing ablution from camel meat, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered ablution; and he was asked about praying in the resting places of camels, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about performing ablution after eating goat meat, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave a concession regarding ablution; and he was asked about praying in their folds, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave a concession.
The Shaykh said: It has been narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that ablution is due from what comes out (urine, stool and the like) and not from what goes in (food and the like), and both of them say that there is no ablution from (eating) what fire has touched (that is, what has been cooked on fire).
Al-Hajjaj bin Artah narrated it from Usayd bin Hudayr, and al-Hajjaj is da'if (weak); Ubaydah al-Dabbi narrated it from Dhu al-Ghurrah, and that is of no worth: it is not known who Dhu al-Ghurrah is, and Ubaydah al-Dabbi is not strong. The hadith of al-A'mash is more authentic.

(a) Abu Ja'far said: A bowl of liver and hump, that is, camel meat, was brought to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him); he ate it and then did not perform ablution. This narration is munqati' (broken) and mawquf (stopping at the Companion).
(b) Abu Ubaydah said: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to eat various kinds of food and did not perform ablution. By the like of this, what is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is not to be abandoned. The jurists have interpreted the earlier narrations in which ablution is mentioned as referring to cleanliness.
