(a) Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Ablution is due from whatever fire has touched."
(b) Abdullah bin Ibrahim bin Qariz related that Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), while performing ablution in the mosque, said: I am performing ablution because I ate a piece of cheese, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perform ablution from everything that fire has touched."
(c) Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perform ablution from everything that fire has touched." Abu Abdullah al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Ablution is not to be performed, because in our view this is abrogated. Do you not know that Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) became a companion of him (peace and blessings be upon him) after the conquest of Makkah, and he narrates from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) ate a goat's shoulder, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed and did not perform ablution? In our view this is clear evidence that performing ablution is abrogated, or that he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered only washing the hands for cleanliness. What is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is that he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not perform ablution; and then Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them), Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), Amir bin Rabi'ah, Ubayy bin Ka'b and Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with them), all of them likewise did not perform ablution.
