Kamil Abu al-Ala narrated it as connected (musnad), while someone more reliable than him narrated it as mursal.

Ibn al-Mubarak (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I do not know who informed me from Qatadah that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not use depilatory powder. Abdullah (Ibn al-Mubarak) said: Of the two matters, the more likely is that he did not use it.
