It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Night and day will not come to an end until al-Lat and al-Uzza are worshipped (again)." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I said: O Messenger of Allah! I used to think that when Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "It is He who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth, to make it prevail over all religions, however much the polytheists may dislike it" [Surah al-Tawbah: 33], this dominance would be complete and permanent. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, it will be so for as long as Allah wills. Then Allah Almighty will send a pleasant wind that will take the soul of everyone in whose heart there is even a mustard seed's weight of good. Then only those in whom there is no good will remain, and they will return to the (polytheistic) religion of their forefathers."

It is narrated from Abdullah bin al-Samit (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: It is my wish that when my family have eaten their evening meal and drunk their night drink, they should wake up dead in their beds. It was said to him: O Abu so-and-so! Are you not well off? He said: Certainly, but I heard Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: "O my nephew! Soon, if you live, a man will be envied for the lightness of his state (that is, few dependants and little wealth) just as today the father of ten sons is envied. And soon, if you live on, you will see a man whom the ruler does not know, nor brings close, nor honours, yet he will be envied just as today the one whom the ruler knows and grants closeness and honour is envied. And O my nephew! Soon a time will come when a funeral will pass through the market and a man will raise his head and say (with longing): 'If only I were on those planks (the bier) in his place.'" I asked: Do you know what (affliction) will have befallen them? He said: Whatever it may be. I said: Surely this will be before some great matter? He said: "Yes, before a very great, very great, very great matter."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salamah bin Nufayl al-Sakuni (may Allah be pleased with him), who was one of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he said: We were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man came and said: O Prophet of Allah! Has food been brought to you from the sky? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, heated food was brought to me." He asked: Was any of it left over? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." He asked: What was done with it? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It was raised up to the sky. And it is being revealed to me that I will remain among you only a short while, and you too will remain after me only a short while; rather, you will remain until you say (in weariness): 'When will it be? When will it be?' Then you will come in scattered groups and destroy one another. And before the Hour there will be a severe death (plagues) and years of earthquakes."
