Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8586

It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Night and day will not come to an end until al-Lat and al-Uzza are worshipped (again)." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I said: O Messenger of Allah! I used to think that when Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "It is He who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth, to make it prevail over all religions, however much the polytheists may dislike it" [Surah al-Tawbah: 33], this dominance would be complete and permanent. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, it will be so for as long as Allah wills. Then Allah Almighty will send a pleasant wind that will take the soul of everyone in whose heart there is even a mustard seed's weight of good. Then only those in whom there is no good will remain, and they will return to the (polytheistic) religion of their forefathers."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: The text between the square brackets dropped out of manuscripts (K), (M) and (B); we have established it correctly from "Sahih Muslim" and others.

Grading: Its chain is strong.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Qilabah is "Abd al-Malik bin Muhammad al-Raqashi", Abu Asim is "al-Dahhak bin Makhlad al-Nabil", and Abu Salamah is "Ibn Abd al-Rahman bin Awf".
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Muslim (2907) via Khalid bin al-Harith and Abu Bakr al-Hanafi, from Abd al-Hamid bin Ja'far, with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): So al-Hakim's inclusion of it (in al-Mustadrak) is an oversight on his part.
Note / Clarification: This narration will be repeated with the author (al-Hakim) under number (8863).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The mention of Allah sending this wind has also come in the hadith of Abd Allah bin Amr, which will come under number (8613), and in the hadith of al-Nawwas bin Sam'an, which will also come at the end of hadith (8718) and is in "Sahih Muslim" (2937).
