It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the labor of the sawani (the camels used to draw water) became very hard for the Ansar. So they came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) so that he might supplicate for them or have a canal dug for them. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed of their coming, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever you ask me for today will be given to you." When the Ansar heard this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), they said: O Messenger of Allah, supplicate to Allah for our forgiveness. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Allahumma ighfir lil-Ansar, wa li-abna'i al-Ansar, wa li-abna'i abna'i al-Ansar' (O Allah, forgive the Ansar, the sons of the Ansar, and the grandsons of the Ansar).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the two tribes of the Ansar, Aws and Khazraj, vied with each other in boasting. The people of Aws said: Among us is the one (Sa'd bin Mu'adh) at whose death the Throne of the Most Merciful shook; among us is the one (Asim bin Thabit bin al-Aqlah) whose blessed body was guarded by hornets; among us is the one (Hanzalah bin al-Rahib) whom the angels washed; and among us is the one (Khuzaymah bin Thabit) whose testimony alone was made equal to the testimony of two men.
