Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.

Reference / Source: It was narrated by al-Bazzar (7090), Abu Ya'la (2953), al-Hakim al-Tirmidhi in "al-Nawadir" (65), al-Tahawi, al-Tabarani (3488), Abu Nu'aym, Ibn Abd al-Barr, Ibn Asakir, al-Diya' and others by various routes from Abd al-Wahhab bin Ata' al-Khaffaf, with this chain.
Reference / Source: Ahmad 21/ (13441) narrated with the chain Abd al-Wahhab bin Ata', from Sa'id (bin Abi Arubah), from Qatadah (bin Di'amah), from Anas, that in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) four people collected the Qur'an, all of them from the Ansar: Ubayy bin Ka'b, Mu'adh bin Jabal, Zayd bin Thabit and Abu Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them).
Reference / Source: Ahmad (13454), and likewise Muslim (2467) from Muhammad bin Abdullah al-Ruzzi, (both from Abd al-Wahhab, from Sa'id, from Qatadah, from Anas) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, while the bier of Sa'd (bin Mu'adh) (may Allah be pleased with him) was placed: "The Throne of the Most Merciful shook for him."
Note / Clarification: The incident of Khuzaymah bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) will come in abridged form under number (7233), while this story has already appeared from the hadith of Khuzaymah himself under number (2218).
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (7032) narrated with the chain Shu'bah, from Qatadah, from Anas, that when the bier of Sa'd was placed (and the Prophet said: "The Throne of the Most Merciful shook for him"), the hypocrites began to say: How light it is! When this reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "It was the angels who were carrying it with them."
Reference / Source: Ahmad 21/ (13942), al-Bukhari (3810), Muslim (2465), al-Tirmidhi (3794), al-Nasa'i (7946, 8228) and Ibn Hibban (7130) by way of Shu'bah, and al-Bukhari (5003) and Muslim (2465) by way of Hammam bin Yahya, both from Qatadah, narrated that he said: I asked Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): Who collected the Qur'an in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: Four, all of them from the Ansar (Ubayy, Mu'adh, Zayd bin Thabit and Abu Zayd).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the printed edition of Sahih Muslim the name of Qatadah had dropped out, and we have corrected it with the help of "Tuhfat al-Ashraf" 1/ 359.
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (5004) narrated with the chain Abdullah bin al-Muthanna, from Thabit al-Bunani and Thumamah, from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) died, only four people had collected the Qur'an (fully, by heart): Abu al-Darda', Mu'adh bin Jabal, Zayd bin Thabit and Abu Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them). Anas said: We became his (Abu Zayd's) heirs.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: As a supporting report for the story of Asim bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), there is the narration of Abu Hurayrah in Musnad Ahmad 13/ (7928), Sahih al-Bukhari (3045) and al-Nasa'i (8788).
Note / Clarification: The story of Hanzalah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was washed by the angels, has already appeared under number (4979).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The imams differ over the identity of the "Abu Zayd" in the above narrations. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar reports in "Fath al-Bari" 11/ 240: according to Ali bin al-Madini his name is "Aws"; according to Yahya bin Ma'in he is "Thabit bin Zayd"; while some said he is "Sa'd bin Ubayd" (the martyr of al-Qadisiyyah).
Important point: In the view of al-Waqidi he is "Qays bin al-Sakan", and Anas calling him one of his paternal uncles supports this view, since he was from the tribe of Banu Haram.
