The death of Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him)

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "On the day of Badr I used to draw water from the well (and give it) to my companions."

Muhammad bin Sa'd says: I said to Muhammad bin Umar (al-Waqidi): The people of Kufah have narrated through al-A'mash from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I used to draw water for my companions from the well on the day of Badr! Muhammad bin Umar said: This is an error in the narration of the people of Iraq, in that they count Sayyiduna Jabir and Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with them both) among those who took part in Badr, whereas neither Musa bin Uqbah, nor Muhammad bin Ishaq, nor Abu Ma'shar, nor anyone else who narrated the Sirah has reported that.

It is narrated from Kharijah bin al-Harith that Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) passed away in the year 78 AH, when he was ninety-four years old. He had lost his eyesight. I saw a Yemeni cloak on his bier, and Aban bin Uthman, the governor of Madinah, led his funeral prayer.

It is narrated from Asim bin Umar bin Qatadah that Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) came to us in a state where the hair of his head and beard was yellow (due to dye).

It is narrated from Muhammad bin al-Munkadir that I heard Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) saying: "I went in to al-Hajjaj, and I did not greet him with salam."
