Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is strong (qawi). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its strength is on account of Abu Sufyan, whose actual name is Talhah bin Nafi'. Reference / Source: It was recorded by Abu Dawud (2731) via Abu Mu'awiyah al-Darir, from al-A'mash (Sulayman bin Mihran), with this chain. Note / Clarification: For a detailed discussion of this narration, see that place in Abu Dawud. Important point: The mention here of Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) taking part in the Battle of Badr contradicts his own sahih narration recorded by Ahmad (22/ 14523) and Muslim (1813). In that sahih narration Jabir says: "I did not take part in Badr or Uhud; my father prevented me …". This is the more correct and better-known position. Note / Clarification: Linguistic clarification: "al-mayih" is the one who goes down into the well and fills the bucket for his companions, while "al-matih" is the one who pulls the bucket up from above.
