Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 6540

It is narrated from Muhammad bin Umar (al-Waqidi) that Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) took part in the Pledge of al-Aqabah along with the seventy Ansar who pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) there, and on that day he was among the youngest of them. He intended to take part in the Battle of Badr, but his father left him behind to look after his nine sisters; and when he (his father) set out for Uhud, he again left him behind (so that he would look after his sisters). However, Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) took part alongside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in all the battles after that.
