(3). It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Hubab bin al-Mundhir al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: On the day of Badr I gave the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) two pieces of advice, which he (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted from me. I set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for the Battle of Badr, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) made camp behind the water. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Did you choose this place by revelation, or is it your own opinion? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Hubab! It is my opinion." I said: Then the better opinion is that you place the water behind you (so that the wells come under our control); then if you need to fall back, you can fall back to it. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted this advice of mine.

(2). It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Hubab bin al-Mundhir (may Allah be pleased with him) that Jibril (peace be upon him) came to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Which of two things is dearer to you: that you remain in your world with your Companions, or that you go to your Lord, to the Gardens of Bliss that He has promised you, where there are the wide-eyed maidens of Paradise (hur al-'in), lasting bliss, and everything your soul desires and with which your eyes are delighted? He (peace and blessings be upon him) consulted his Companions, and they said: O Messenger of Allah! Your remaining with us is dearer to us, so that you may inform us of the weaknesses of our enemies, pray to Allah to grant us victory, and tell us the news of the heavens. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Hubab! Why do you not say anything?" I said: O Messenger of Allah! Choose what your Lord has chosen for you. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted this advice of mine.
