أخبرني أبو سعيد الأحمسي، حدثنا الحُسين بن حميد، حدثنا مروان بن جعفر، حدثني حُميد بن مُعاذ، حدثني مُدرِك بن عبد الرحمن، عن الحسن بن ذَكْوان، عن الحسن، عن سَمُرة، عن كعب، قال: وكان يُونسُ بن مَتّى الذي سمّاه الله ذا النُّون، فقال: ﴿وَذَا النُّونِ إِذْ ذَهَبَ مُغَاضِبًا فَظَنَّ أَنْ لَنْ نَقْدِرَ عَلَيْهِ فَنَادَى فِي الظُّلُمَاتِ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ﴾ [الأنبياء: 87]، فاستجابَ اللهُ له فَنَجّاهُ من الغَمّ من ظُلُماتٍ ثلاثٍ: ظُلْمةِ الليل، وظُلْمةِ البحر، وظُلْمةِ بطن الحُوت، وتاب على قومه، وأرسَلَه إلى مئة ألفٍ أو يزيدون، فآمَنُوا فمتَّعهم اللهُ إلى آجالِهمُ التي كَتَبَها لهم، ولم يُهلِكْهُم بالعذاب (3).
It is narrated from Ka'b (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "And Yunus bin Matta is the one whom Allah Almighty named Dhu al-Nun. So Allah Almighty said: 'And (remember) the man of the fish, when he went off in anger and thought that We would not put him in straits; then he called out in the darknesses: There is no true god but You; glory be to You; indeed I have been of the wrongdoers.' [Surah al-Anbiya: 87] So Allah Almighty answered his supplication and delivered him from the distress of three darknesses: the darkness of the night, the darkness of the sea and the darkness of the belly of the fish. And Allah Almighty accepted the repentance of his people, and sent him to a hundred thousand people or more, and they believed, so Allah let them enjoy life until their appointed terms which He had written for them, and did not destroy them with punishment."
حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا إبراهيم بن سليمان بن أبي داود البُرُلُّسي، حدثنا محمد بن عُبيد الطَّنَافِسي، حدثنا يونس بن أبي إسحاق السَّبِيعي، حدثني إبراهيم بن محمد بن سعد بن أبي وقّاص، حدثني والدي محمد، عن أبيه سعد قال: قال النبي ﷺ: "دعوةُ ذي النُّون التي دعا بها في بطنِ الحُوت: ﴿لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ﴾ [الأنبياء: 87] لم يَدْعُ مسلمٌ بها في كُرْبةٍ إلَّا استجاب اللهُ له" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The supplication of Dhu al-Nun (Yunus, peace be upon him), which he made in the belly of the fish: 'La ilaha illa anta, subhanaka, inni kuntu min al-zalimin' (There is no true god but You; glory be to You; indeed I have been of the wrongdoers) [Surah al-Anbiya: 87]: no Muslim makes this supplication in any calamity or distress except that Allah Almighty surely answers him."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

حدثني أبو بكر بن إسحاق من أصل كتابه، حدثنا علي بن الحسين بن الجُنَيد، حدثنا المُعافَى بن سليمان، حدثنا فُلَيح بن سليمان، عن هِلال بن علي، عن عطاء بن يَسار، عن أبي هريرة، أن النبي ﷺ قال: "من قال: إنِّي خَيرٌ من يونس بن مَتَّى، فقد كَذَبَ" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه بهذا اللفظ! إنما اتفقا على حديث أبي العَالِية عن ابن عبّاس: "لا يَنبغي لأحدٍ أن يقول: إني خَيرٌ من يُونسَ بن مَتّى" (3).

حدثنا علي بن حَمْشاذَ، حدثنا محمد بن غالب، حدثنا عفّان بن مُسلِم وأبو سَلَمة، قالا: حدثنا حمّاد بن سَلَمة، أخبرنا داود بن أبي هند، عن سعيد بن جُبَير، عن ابن عبّاس: أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ مَرَّ على ثَنِيَّةٍ، فقال: "ما هذه؟ " قالوا: هذه ثَنِيّةُ كذا وكذا، قال: "كأني أنظُرُ إلى يُونسَ بن متَّى على ناقةٍ خِطامُها لِيفٌ، وعليه جُبّةٌ من صُوف، وهو يقول: لَبَّيكَ اللهم لَبَّيك" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط مسلم، ولم يُخرجاه (2).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed through a mountain pass and asked: "Which pass is this?" The Companions said: "This is such and such a pass." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is as if I am looking at Yunus bin Matta (peace be upon him) riding a she-camel whose halter is of palm fibre, wearing a cloak (jubbah) of wool, and saying: 'Labbayka Allahumma labbayk' (Here I am, O Allah, here I am)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
