حدثني أبو بكر بن إسحاق من أصل كتابه، حدثنا علي بن الحسين بن الجُنَيد، حدثنا المُعافَى بن سليمان، حدثنا فُلَيح بن سليمان، عن هِلال بن علي، عن عطاء بن يَسار، عن أبي هريرة، أن النبي ﷺ قال: "من قال: إنِّي خَيرٌ من يونس بن مَتَّى، فقد كَذَبَ" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه بهذا اللفظ! إنما اتفقا على حديث أبي العَالِية عن ابن عبّاس: "لا يَنبغي لأحدٍ أن يقول: إني خَيرٌ من يُونسَ بن مَتّى" (3).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever says, 'I am better than Yunus bin Matta,' has lied."
This hadith with these words is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it; however, they both agreed on this hadith of Abu al-Aliyah from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that (the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said): "It is not fitting for anyone to say, 'I am better than Yunus bin Matta.'"

(2) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد حسن من أجل فُليح بن سليمان، وقد توبع.
Grading: The hadith is sahih, and this chain is hasan because of Fulayh bin Sulayman, and he has been corroborated.
وأخرجه البخاري (2604) عن محمد بن سنان، و (4805) من طريق محمد بن فُليح بن سليمان، كلاهما عن فُليح، بهذا الإسناد. فاستدراك الحاكم له ذهولٌ منه.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by al-Bukhari in (2604) from Muhammad bin Sinan, and in (4805) via Muhammad bin Fulayh bin Sulayman, both of them from Fulayh, with this chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): So al-Hakim's including it as a supplement (istidrak) is an oversight on his part.
وأخرجه بهذا اللفظ أيضًا أحمد 15/ (9821)، وابن ماجه (4274)، والترمذي (3245)، وابن حبان (7311) من طريق محمد بن عمرو بن علقمة، عن أبي سلمة، عن أبي هريرة.
Reference / Source: It was also recorded with this wording by Ahmad 15/ (9821), Ibn Majah (4274), al-Tirmidhi (3245), and Ibn Hibban (7311) via Muhammad bin Amr bin 'Alqamah, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurayrah.
وإسناده حسن.
Grading: And its chain is hasan.
وأخرجه أحمد 15/ (9255) و 16 / (10043) و (10952)، والبخاري (3416) و (4631)، ومسلم (2376)، وابن حبان (6238) من طريق حميد بن عبد الرحمن بن عوف، عن أبي هريرة، مرفوعًا بلفظ: "لا ينبغي لعبد أن يقول: أنا خير من يونس بن مَتّى".
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad 15/ (9255), 16/ (10043) and (10952), al-Bukhari (3416) and (4631), Muslim (2376), and Ibn Hibban (6238) via Humayd bin Abd al-Rahman bin 'Awf, from Abu Hurayrah, as marfu', with the wording: "It is not proper for any servant to say: I am better than Yunus bin Matta."
