It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the surah "He frowned and turned away" was revealed concerning the blind Companion Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him). He came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and began saying: (O Messenger of Allah,) guide me. At that time some of the great chiefs of the polytheists were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from him (the blind Companion) and turned towards those chiefs, asking them: "Do you see any harm in what I am saying?" And they would say: No. So on this occasion "He frowned and turned away" [Surah Abasa: 1] was revealed.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it, because a group of narrators has narrated it from Hisham bin Urwah in mursal form.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) reciting these verses: "Then We caused grain to grow therein, and grapes and fodder, and olives and date palms, and gardens of dense trees, and fruit and abb" [Surah Abasa: 27-31]. Then (Umar al-Faruq (may Allah be pleased with him)) said: All of this we know, but what is meant by "abb"? Then he shook the stick that was in his hand and said: By Allah, this is affectation (delving into the depths of meanings)! Follow what has become clear to you from this Book.

It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers Sayyidah Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "People will be raised (on the Day of Resurrection) barefoot, naked and uncircumcised; the sweat will reach their mouths like a bridle and will reach the lobes of their ears." Sayyidah Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, how shameful! Will we look at one another? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "At that time people will be heedless of that (looking) and preoccupied (with their own concern)." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited these verses: "On the Day a man will flee from his brother, and his mother and his father, and his wife and his sons. Every man among them that Day will have a matter enough to occupy him (from others)." [Surah Abasa: 34-37]
