It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began reciting this verse: "And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out, and will provide for him from where he does not expect" [Al-Talaq: 2, 3]. He says: He (peace and blessings be upon him) kept repeating it until I began to doze. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Dharr, if all people were to adopt this (verse), it would suffice them (in all their affairs)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that this verse, "And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out, and will provide for him from where he does not expect", was revealed concerning a man of the tribe of Ashja' who was extremely poor, empty-handed and had many dependants. He came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and presented his need. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Fear Allah and be patient." He went back to his companions, and they asked: What did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) give you? He said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) did not give me anything (in wealth); he only said: "Fear Allah and be patient." Only a short time had passed when his son, whom the enemy had captured, arrived bringing sheep. He came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), asked him about the sheep and told him the whole story. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Eat them." Then this verse was revealed: "And whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out, and will provide for him from where he does not expect."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the verse of Surah al-Baqarah was revealed in which the various waiting periods of women are mentioned, people said: Some categories of women still remain whose waiting period has not been mentioned, namely young girls (who have not menstruated), elderly women whose menstruation has stopped, and pregnant women. So Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this verse: "And those of your women who have despaired of menstruation, if you are in doubt, their waiting period is three months, and (also for) those who have not menstruated. And for those who are pregnant, their term is until they deliver their burden." [Al-Talaq: 4]
