It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Abd Yazid, the father of Rukanah, divorced Umm Rukanah and married a woman from the tribe of Muzaynah. That woman came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and, taking hold of a hair from her head, said: O Messenger of Allah, he is of no use to me except as much as this hair. On hearing this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was moved by a sense of honour (hamiyyah). He (peace and blessings be upon him) called Rukanah and his brothers, then asked those sitting with him: "Do you see the resemblance of so-and-so in so-and-so (Rukanah's brothers)?" Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Abd Yazid: "Divorce her." He divorced her. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Abu Rukanah (Abd Yazid): "Take back your first wife (Umm Rukanah)." He said: O Messenger of Allah, I have already divorced her! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I know that; take her back." So this verse was revealed: "O Prophet, when you divorce women, divorce them for their waiting period." [Al-Talaq: 1]

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning the saying of Allah, "unless they commit a clear immorality" [Al-Talaq: 1], that he said: "(A woman's) leaving her house (without need, during the waiting period) is 'fahishah mubayyinah' (clear disobedience)."
