It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the verse of Surah al-Baqarah was revealed in which the various waiting periods of women are mentioned, people said: Some categories of women still remain whose waiting period has not been mentioned, namely young girls (who have not menstruated), elderly women whose menstruation has stopped, and pregnant women. So Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this verse: "And those of your women who have despaired of menstruation, if you are in doubt, their waiting period is three months, and (also for) those who have not menstruated. And for those who are pregnant, their term is until they deliver their burden." [Al-Talaq: 4]
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: Manuscripts (Z) and (B) have the words "wa-al-kibar wa-la man inqata'at 'anhunna", and (S) and ('A) have "wa-al-kibar wa-allati inqata'at 'anhunna". What we have established in the text (which is correct) is taken from "Musnad Ishaq bin Rahawayh", as in "al-Matalib al-'Aliyah" (3758), and from al-Bayhaqi's "al-Sunan al-Kubra" (7/420) and "al-Sunan al-Sughra" (2785), where he narrated it from the author (al-Hakim) with his chain and text.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): All its narrators are thiqah, but it is "munqati'". Amr bin Salim (who is Abu Uthman al-Ansari, better known by his kunyah) did not live in the time of Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him), as Abu Hatim al-Razi said. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar also declared it defective due to the disconnection in "al-Ithaf" (110). Ishaq is "Ibn Rahawayh" and Jarir is "Ibn Abd al-Hamid". Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "al-Sunan al-Kubra" (7/420) and "al-Sughra" (2785) from Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim with this same chain. Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah (4/298) and al-Tabari in his Tafsir (28/141) recorded it via Abd Allah bin Idris, from Mutarrif bin Tarif, with this same chain.
