It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed your children are a gift from Allah to you: 'He grants daughters to whom He wills and grants sons to whom He wills' [Surah al-Shura: 49]. So they and their wealth are yours when you need them."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it with these words. Rather, they both agreed upon this hadith of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): "The purest thing a man eats is from his own earnings, and his child is part of his earnings."

Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunayf narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded charity (zakah). A man brought poor-quality dates (shis). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Who brought this?" At that time everything was attributed to the one who brought it. Then this verse was revealed: "And do not aim for the inferior part of it to spend (in the way of Allah), while you yourselves would not take it except with your eyes closed to it" [Surah al-Baqarah: 267]. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade two kinds of dates from being taken in charity: al-ju'rur and lawn al-hubayq. Al-Zuhri said: These two are varieties of the dates of Madinah.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out holding a staff in his hand. There were bunches of dates (given in charity) hanging there, one of which was a bunch of poor, dried-up dates (hashaf). He (peace and blessings be upon him) struck that bunch with the staff and said: "What harm would it have done the giver of this charity if he had given something better than this? Indeed the owner of these dates will be given poor, dried-up dates to eat on the Day of Resurrection." Then he said: "By Allah, you will leave these orchards for forty years to the 'awafi.'" Then he said: "Do you know what the 'awafi' are?" They said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The birds and the beasts of prey."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, and the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
