Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunayf narrates from his father, Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade two kinds of dates: al-ju'rur and lawn al-hubayq. He said: Some people used to seek out the worst of their fruits and give them out in charity, so they were forbidden these two kinds of dates, and this verse was revealed: "And do not aim for the inferior part of it to spend (in the way of Allah)" [Surah al-Baqarah: 267].
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not record it.
