Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3160

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed your children are a gift from Allah to you: 'He grants daughters to whom He wills and grants sons to whom He wills' [Surah al-Shura: 49]. So they and their wealth are yours when you need them."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it with these words. Rather, they both agreed upon this hadith of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): "The purest thing a man eats is from his own earnings, and his child is part of his earnings."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is "da'if" (weak) with this wording;
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Hammad (Ibn Abi Sulayman) is alone in narrating it from Ibrahim (Ibn Yazid al-Nakha'i), and Hammad, despite being trustworthy, falls into errors in reports (athar), and this is one of them. Sufyan counted his phrase in it, "إذا احتجتم إليها" (when you need it), among his errors, as in al-Bayhaqi's "Sunan" 7/480, and Abu Dawud al-Sijistani, in his "Sunan" after hadith (3529), counted it among his munkar narrations.
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it with this wording in 7/480 from Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Likewise al-Tha'labi recorded it in his "Tafsir" 8/325 via several routes from 'Ali bin al-Hasan bin Shaqiq, with the same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Hammad bin Salamah differed in its wording (in what Abu Nu'aym recorded in "Tarikh Asbahan" 1/288, and via him al-Dhahabi in "Tadhkirat al-Huffaz" 3/888, with a sahih chain to him): he narrated it from Hammad bin Abi Sulayman with this chain to 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) as marfu', with the wording: "Your children are among the purest of your earnings, so eat from the earnings of your children." This is what is mahfuz (preserved) in the hadith of 'A'ishah.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Hammad bin Abi Sulayman was corroborated with this wording by al-A'mash, from Ibrahim al-Nakha'i, as has already been referenced at hadith (2325).
Note / Clarification: Shaykh Nasir al-Din al-Albani (may Allah have mercy on him) in "al-Silsilah al-Sahihah" (2564) overlooked the defects present in the hadith of Hammad bin Abi Sulayman with the wording found in al-Hakim, and so declared it sahih.

Note / Clarification: Al-Hakim (may Allah have mercy on him) erred here in his statement: "اتفقا على حديث عائشة" (the two agreed on the hadith of 'A'ishah), whereas earlier, under no. (2325), he had included it as a supplement (istidrak) to the two Shaykhs, and it is not found with either of them.

Note / Clarification: In our manuscripts it is "واللونين"; the standard form is what we have retained, as in the Mahmudiyyah manuscript, as in the al-Mayman edition.
