حدثنا أبو بكر محمد بن داود الزاهد، حدثنا علي بن الحسين بن الجُنَيد، حدثنا زيد بن أخزَمَ الطائي، حدثنا عامر بن مُدرِك الحارثي، حدثنا عُتْبة بن يَقْظان، عن قيس بن مسلم، عن طارق بن شِهاب، عن ابن مسعود، عن النبي ﷺ قال: "ما أحسَنَ محسنٌ من مسلم ولا كافرٍ إلّا أثابَه الله" قال: فقلنا: يا رسول الله، ما إثابةُ الله الكافرِ؟ قال: "إن كان قد وَصَلَ رَحِمًا، أو تصدَّق بصدقة، أو عَمِلَ حسنةً، أثابهُ اللهُ المالَ والولدَ والصِّحَّة وأشباهَ ذلك" قال: فقلنا: وما إثابتُه في الآخرة؟ فقال: "عذابًا دونَ العذاب" قال: وقرأ رسول الله ﷺ: ﴿أَدْخِلُوا آلَ فِرْعَوْنَ أَشَدَّ الْعَذَابِ﴾ [غافر: 46]؛ هكذا قرأَه رسول الله ﷺ مقطوعةَ الألف (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No Muslim or disbeliever does any good deed but that Allah rewards him for it." We said: O Messenger of Allah! How does Allah reward the disbeliever? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If he has maintained ties of kinship, or given charity, or done some other good deed, Allah rewards him with wealth, children, health and other blessings like these." We said: And what will his reward be in the Hereafter? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A punishment lesser than the (full) punishment (of Hell)." The narrator said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "Make the people of Pharaoh enter the severest punishment." [Surah Ghafir: 46] The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse in this way, with the alif pronounced as a separate hamzah (hamzat al-qat').

حدثنا أبو العبَّاس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا أبو البَخْتري عبد الله بن محمد ابن شاكر، حدثنا جعفر بن عَوْن، حدثنا الأجلَح بن عبد الله، عن الذَّيَّال بن حَرمَلة، عن جابر بن عبد الله قال: اجتمعت قريشٌ يومًا، فأتاه عتبةُ بن رَبيعة بن عبد شمس فقال: يا محمد، أنت خيرٌ أم عبدُ الله؟ فَسَكَتَ رسولُ الله ﷺ، فقال له رسول الله ﷺ: "أَفَرَغْتَ؟ " قال: نعم، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: ﴿بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ. حم (1) تَنْزِيلٌ﴾ حتى بلغ ﴿فَإِنْ أَعْرَضُوا فَقُلْ أَنْذَرْتُكُمْ صَاعِقَةً مِثْلَ صَاعِقَةِ عَادٍ وَثَمُودَ﴾ [فصلت: 1 - 13]، فقال له عُتْبة: حَسْبُكَ حَسْبُك، ما عندَك غيرُ هذا؟ قال: "لا" فرجع عتبةُ إلى قريش فقالوا: ما وراءَك؟ فقال: ما تركتُ شيئًا أرى أنكم تكلِّمونه إلّا كلَّمتُه، قالوا: فهل أجابَك؟ قال: نعم، لا والذي نَصَبَها بَنِيَّةً ما فهمتُ شيئًا مما قال، غيرَ أنه قال: أنذرتُكم صاعقةً مثلَ صاعقة عاد وثمود، قالوا: ويلَك، يكلِّمُك رجلٌ بالعربية، ولا تدري ما قال! قال: لا والله ما فهمتُ شيئًا ممّا قال غيرَ ذِكْر الصاعقة (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that one day Quraysh gathered, and Utbah bin Rabi'ah bin Abd Shams came to him and said: "O Muhammad! Are you better, or (your father) Abdullah?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "Have you finished what you have to say?" He said: "Yes." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited: "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Ha Mim. A revelation" until he (peace and blessings be upon him) reached this point: "But if they turn away, then say: I have warned you of a thunderbolt like the thunderbolt (that struck) Ad and Thamud." [Surah Fussilat: 1-13] Utbah said: "Enough, enough! Do you have nothing other than this?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." Utbah returned to Quraysh, and they asked: "What news?" He said: "There was nothing left that I thought you would say to him but that I said it." They asked: "Did he answer you?" He said: "Yes, but by the One who built the Ka'bah, I did not understand anything he said except that he said: I warn you of a punishment like the thunderbolt of Ad and Thamud." They said: "Woe to you! A man speaks to you in Arabic and you do not understand what he said!" He said: "No, by Allah, I did not understand anything except the mention of the thunderbolt."

حدثنا أبو العبَّاس محمد بن يعقوب، أخبرنا العبَّاس بن الوليد بن مَزْيَد، حدثنا محمد بن شعيب، أخبرنا شَيْبان بن عبد الرحمن، عن عاصم، عن أبي رزين، عن أبي يحيى، عن ابن عبَّاس، عن النبي ﷺ: (وإنَّه لَعَلَمٌ لِلسَّاعةِ) [الزخرف: 61] قال: "خروجُ عيسى قبل يوم القيامة" (2).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said concerning this verse: "And indeed, he is a sign of the Hour": "(It refers to) the coming forth of Isa (peace be upon him) before the Day of Resurrection." [Surah al-Zukhruf: 61]
