Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3037

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Jibril (peace be upon him) about this verse: "And the Trumpet will be blown, and all who are in the heavens and all who are on the earth will fall unconscious, except whom Allah wills": who are those whom Allah willed not to fall unconscious? He replied: "They are the martyrs of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic." [Surah al-Zumar: 68]
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator Abu Usamah is "Hammad bin Usamah", and 'Umar bin Muhammad is "'Umar bin Muhammad bin Zayd bin Abd Allah bin 'Umar al-'Umari", as al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar (may Allah have mercy on him) specified in "Ithaf al-Maharah" (17869).
Reference / Source: Abu Mansur al-Daylami recorded it in "Musnad al-Firdaws", as in Ibn Hajar's "al-Ghara'ib al-Multaqatah" (1763), by way of Baqiyyah bin al-Walid; and Ibn Abi al-Dunya in "Sifat al-Jannah" (248), Abu Ya'la in his "al-Musnad al-Kabir" (as in al-Busiri's "Ithaf al-Khiyarah" (5806)), and Ibn Battah in "al-Ibanah al-Kubra" 7/ 97 recorded it by way of Isma'il bin 'Ayyash. Both of them (Baqiyyah and Isma'il) narrate from 'Umar bin Muhammad, with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn 'Ayyash's narration has an addition to what is in the hadith of Abu Usamah, whereas Abu Usamah is the better memoriser and more reliable (than Ibn 'Ayyash).
General principle: Isma'il bin 'Ayyash's narration from other than the Syrians contains "takhlit" (confusion), and the narrator 'Umar bin Muhammad here is "Madani" (not Syrian, so Isma'il's narration here is weak in principle).
