حدثنا أبو النَّضْر محمد بن محمد بن يوسف الفقيه، حدثنا عثمان بن سعيد الدارِمي وِبْشر بن موسى الأَسَدي والحارث بن أبي أُسامة التميمي قالوا: حدثنا يحيى بن إسحاق السّالَحِيني، حدثنا يحيى بن أيوب، حدثني يزيد بن أبي حَبِيب، أنَّ عبد الرحمن بن شُمَاسَة حدَّثه عن زيد بن ثابت قال: كنَّا حولَ رسول الله ﷺ نُؤلِّفُ القرآنَ، إذ قال: "طُوبَى للشَّام"، فقيل له: ولِمَ؟ قال: "إنَّ ملائكةَ الرحمنِ باسطةٌ أجنِحتَها عليهم" (1). رواه جرير بن حازم عن يحيى بن أيوب:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: We were gathered around the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) engaged in compiling the Noble Qur'an (arranging its scattered portions), when he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Glad tidings (Tuba) for al-Sham." It was said: O Messenger of Allah! Why is that? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the angels of the Most Merciful are spreading their wings over them (the people of al-Sham)." Jarir bin Hazim narrated it from Yahya bin Ayyub.
حدَّثَناه أبو عبد الله محمد بن يعقوب الحافظ، حدثنا إبراهيم بن عبد الله السَّعْدي، حدثنا وهب بن جَرير، حدثنا أَبي، سمعتُ يحيى بن أيوب يحدِّث عن يزيد بن أبي حَبيب، عن عبد الرحمن بن شُمَاسةَ، عن زيد بن ثابت قال: كنَّا عند رسول الله ﷺ نُؤلِّفُ القرآن من الرِّقَاع، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: "طُوبَى للشَّام"، فقلنا: لأيِّ شيءٍ ذاك؟ فقال: "لأنَّ ملائكةَ الرحمن باسطةٌ أجنِحتَها عليهم" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه. وفيه البيانُ الواضحُ: أنَّ جَمْعَ القرآن لم يكن مرةً واحدةً، فقد جُمِعَ بعضُه بحَضْرة رسول الله ﷺ، ثم جُمِعَ بحَضْرة أبي بكر الصِّدّيق، والجمعُ الثالث - وهو ترتيب السُّوَر - كان في خلافة أمير المؤمنين عثمان، ﵃ أجمعين.
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه. وفيه البيانُ الواضحُ: أنَّ جَمْعَ القرآن لم يكن مرةً واحدةً، فقد جُمِعَ بعضُه بحَضْرة رسول الله ﷺ، ثم جُمِعَ بحَضْرة أبي بكر الصِّدّيق، والجمعُ الثالث - وهو ترتيب السُّوَر - كان في خلافة أمير المؤمنين عثمان، ﵃ أجمعين.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) compiling (arranging) the Noble Qur'an from pieces of leather, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Glad tidings (Tuba) for al-Sham." We said: Why is that? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Because the angels of the Most Merciful are spreading their wings over them (the people of al-Sham)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it. And in it there is a clear statement that the compilation of the Qur'an was not completed at one time; rather, part of it was compiled in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), then it was compiled in the time of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), and the third compilation, which is the present arrangement of the surahs, took place during the caliphate of the Commander of the Believers, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with them all).

أخبرنا أبو جعفر محمد بن محمد البغدادي، حدثنا يحيى بن أيوب العَلَّاف، حدثنا سعيد بن أبي مريم، أخبرنا محمد بن جعفر بن أبي كَثير، حدثنا شَرِيك بن عبد الله بن أبي نَمِرٍ، عن عطاء بن يَسَار، عن أبي ذرٍّ أنه قال: دخلتُ المسجدَ يومَ الجُمُعة، والنبيُّ ﷺ يَخطُب، فجلستُ قريبًا من أُبيِّ بن كعب، فقرأَ النبيُّ ﷺ سورةَ براءةَ، فقلت لأُبي: متى نَزَلَت هذه السورةُ؟ قال: فتجهَّمَني ولم يُكلِّمْني؛ قال: وذكر الحديث (1). هكذا وجدتُه في كتابي، وطلبتُه في المسانيد فلم أجده بطوله، والحديث بإسنادٍ صحيح.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I entered the mosque on Friday while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon, and I sat down near Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited Surah Bara'ah (al-Tawbah), and I asked Ubayy: When was this surah revealed? He looked at me with displeasure and did not speak to me; (the narrator mentioned the whole hadith). Imam al-Hakim says: I found it like this in my book, and I searched for it at full length in the Musnad collections but could not find it, and this hadith has an authentic chain (sahih al-isnad).
