It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Instruct me with words that I may recite in the morning and in the evening. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say: 'Allahumma fatir as-samawati wal-ard, 'alim al-ghaybi wash-shahadah, rabba kulli shay'in wa malikah, ashhadu an la ilaha illa ant, a'udhu bika min sharri nafsi, wa min sharri ash-shaytani wa shirkih' (O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Lord of everything and its Sovereign! I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self, and from the evil of Satan and his shirk (or his snares))." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite them in the morning, in the evening, and when you go to your bed to sleep."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Hani bint Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: I said: O Prophet of Allah! I have become a weak and elderly woman, so tell me of a deed (that I can do easily). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say 'Allahu akbar' one hundred times, say 'Alhamdu lillah' one hundred times, and say 'Subhan Allah' one hundred times. This is better for you than sacrificing one hundred accepted camels, better than sending out fighters mounted on one hundred saddled and bridled horses in the way of Allah, and better than freeing one hundred accepted slaves. And saying 'La ilaha illallah' (There is no god but Allah) leaves no sin remaining, and no deed is equal to it."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but because it is the narration of Zakariyya bin Manzur, the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
