It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id and Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty has chosen four phrases from speech: 'Subhan Allah, wal-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar' (Glorified is Allah, all praise is for Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest). When a servant says 'Subhan Allah', twenty good deeds are written for him or twenty sins are wiped away; when he says 'Allahu akbar', the same happens; when he says 'La ilaha illallah', the reward is the same; and when a servant says of his own accord (with sincerity of heart): 'All praise is for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds', thirty good deeds are written for him and thirty of his sins are forgiven."
This hadith is sahih on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you of a planting better than this?" He said: Certainly! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say: 'Subhan Allah, wal-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar' (Glorified is Allah, all praise is for Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest); for each one of these words a tree will be planted for you in Paradise."
