It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by him while he was planting a sapling. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O Abu Hurayrah, what are you doing?" He said: I am planting a sapling. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you of a planting better than this?" He said: Certainly! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say: 'Subhan Allah, wal-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wallahu akbar' (Glorified is Allah, all praise is for Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest); for each one of these words a tree will be planted for you in Paradise."
The chain of this hadith is sahih, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.
Hadith Takhrij«
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is weak on account of Abu Sinan (Isa bin Sinan al-Qasmali), since according to al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar he is "layyin al-hadith" (of weak memory), although al-Mundhiri called it hasan. Technical note: Abu al-Muthanna refers to Mu'adh bin al-Muthanna al-Anbari, and Muhammad bin Abd Allah al-Khuza'i refers to Ibn Uthman al-Basri. Reference / Source: It was narrated likewise by Ibn Majah (3807) with the chain Affan bin Muslim from Hammad bin Salamah. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: This narration is reported from Abu Hurayrah through two other routes; the first is with al-Bazzar (9311) through Humayd al-Makki, but the chain is weak because Humayd is unknown. Defect ('illah) / Technical note: The second route is with al-Tabarani (3171), but it is weak on account of the weakness of Sulayman bin Abi Karimah and the "'an'anah" of Ibn Jurayj; moreover, Ibn Jurayj has no hearing from Abu Salih. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Regarding the plants of Paradise (ghiras al-jannah), the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud is a supporting report, which al-Tirmidhi (3462) called "hasan gharib". Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The narration of Ibn Abbas (al-Tabarani) is also a supporting report, which al-Mundhiri declared hasan in corroborations. Important point: The supporting report for trees being planted in Paradise by saying the tasbih alone is the next hadith of Jabir.
