It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min al-arba': min 'ilmin la yanfa', wa qalbin la yakhsha', wa nafsin la tashba', wa du'a'in la yusma'' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from four things: from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that is not humble, from a soul that is never satisfied, and from a supplication that is not heard).
It has an authentic supporting narration (shahid) from the narration of Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) on the condition of Imam Muslim.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'ilmin la yanfa', wa qalbin la yakhsha', wa nafsin la tashba', wa du'a'in la yusma'' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that is not humble, from a soul that is never satisfied, and from a supplication that is not heard (accepted)), and at the end of it he (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from these four things."
It has reached me that Imam Muslim bin al-Hajjaj recorded it from the hadith of Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both): Quraysh said to me: "You write down everything you hear from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), yet he (peace and blessings be upon him) is a human being who becomes angry just as other human beings become angry?" So I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, Quraysh say that you write down (everything) from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), while he is a human being who becomes angry just as other human beings do?" The narrator said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed to his blessed lips and said: "By the One in whose Hand is my soul, nothing comes out from between these two except the truth, so write."
This hadith has authentic chains and is a foundation (proof) regarding the writing down of the hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The two Shaykhs used all of its narrators as evidence except Abd al-Wahid bin Qays, who is a shaykh from the people of Syria, and his son Umar bin Abd al-Wahid al-Dimashqi is one of the imams of hadith. This hadith also has a supporting narration (shahid) which the two Shaykhs recorded in abridged form through Hammam bin Munabbih from Abu Hurayrah.

Imam Ishaq bin Rahawayh said: If the narrator from Amr bin Shu'ayb is himself trustworthy, then this chain is regarded as equal in reliability and strength to Ayyub from Nafi' from Ibn Umar.
