Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 361

حدَّثَناه علي بن حَمْشاذَ العَدْل، حدثنا محمد بن نُعَيم، حدثنا قُتيبة بن سعيد، حدثنا خلف بن خَلِيفة، عن حفصٍ ابن أخي أنس، عن أنس قال: كان من دعاءِ النبي ﷺ: "اللهمَّ إني أعوذُ بك من علمٍ لا يَنفَع، وقلبٍ لا يخشَع، ونفسٍ لا تَشبَع، ودعاءٍ لا يُسمَع"، ويقول في آخر ذلك: "اللهمَّ إني أعوذُ بك من هؤلاءِ الأربع" (2). وقد بلغني أنَّ مسلم بن الحَجّاج أخرجه من حديث زيد بن أرقَمَ عن النبي ﷺ (3).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'ilmin la yanfa', wa qalbin la yakhsha', wa nafsin la tashba', wa du'a'in la yusma'' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that is not humble, from a soul that is never satisfied, and from a supplication that is not heard (accepted)), and at the end of it he (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from these four things."
It has reached me that Imam Muslim bin al-Hajjaj recorded it from the hadith of Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

(2) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد قوي.
Grading: This hadith is "sahih" and its chain is "qawi".
وأخرجه النسائي (7821) عن قتيبة بن سعيد، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Nasa'i transmitted it (7821) via Qutaybah bin Sa'id with this same chain.
وأخرجه أحمد 21/ (14023) عن عفان بن مسلم، عن خلف بن خليفة، به.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it (21/ 14023) through the chain of Affan bin Muslim from Khalaf bin Khalifah.
وأخرجه أحمد 20/ (13003) و 21 / (13674)، وابن حبان (83) من طريق حماد بن سلمة، عن قتادة، عن أنس - لكن قال فيه بدلَ "ونفس لا تشبع": "وعمل لا يُرفَع".
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (20/ 13003 and 21/ 13674) and Ibn Hibban (83) narrated it through the chain of Hammad bin Salamah from Qatadah from Anas.
Details of the narration: In this narration, instead of "a soul that is not satisfied", the wording is "a deed that is not raised (i.e., not accepted)".
