Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated marfu‘an from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that there is no zakat on a Muslim's horse and slave.

Abu’l-Sha’tha’ Muharibi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once we were sitting in the mosque with Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) when the muezzin gave the call to prayer. A man stood up and left the mosque. Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: This man has disobeyed Abu’l-Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him).

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever sees me in a dream should be certain that he has seen me, for Satan cannot take my form or appearance. And whoever deliberately attributes a false statement to me should make his abode in Hell.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every child is born upon pure nature; later, his parents make him a Jew, a Christian, or a polytheist.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best era of my Ummah is the one in which I was sent, then the era of those who come after them, then the era of those who come after them. (Now Allah knows best whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned 'those who come after' twice or three times.) After that, there will come a people who will love obesity and will be ready to give testimony before it is even requested."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The part of the trousers that hangs below the ankles will be in Hell.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If a man is declared bankrupt and someone finds his own property with him in its original form, then he has more right to that property than others.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Five things are part of nature: (1) Circumcision (2) Removing pubic hair (3) Plucking armpit hair (4) Cutting nails (5) Trimming the mustache.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty has said, "The reward of every good deed is multiplied tenfold, but fasting is especially for Me, and I Myself will give its reward. The servant leaves his food and drink for My sake, so fasting is for Me, and I Myself will give its reward. The breath of the fasting person is more pleasant to Allah than the fragrance of musk."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Soon, Hazrat Isa (peace be upon him) will descend among you as a just ruler. Whoever remains alive will meet him. He will break the cross, kill the swine, abolish the jizya, and during his time, war will cease.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever is blessed with seeing me in a dream should be certain that he has seen me, because Satan does not have the power to assume my form and appearance.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever intends to do a good deed but is unable to act upon it, even then one good deed is written for him. And if he carries out that good deed, then for him ten to seven hundred times the reward is written. And if he is unable to act, then only one good deed is written. And if a person intends to commit a sin but does not act upon it, then that sin is not recorded in his book of deeds.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the mouse is from a deformed nation, and its sign is that if camel’s milk is placed before it, it does not drink it, but if goat’s milk is placed before it, it drinks it. Ka’b Ahbar (may Allah have mercy on him), who was a newly converted Jewish scholar, said: “Did you yourself hear this hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?” I said: “Has the Torah been revealed to me?”

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The wound caused by an animal is without liability, the blood of one who dies by falling into a well is without liability, the blood of one who dies in a mine is also without liability, and for buried treasure that someone finds, one-fifth (khums) is obligatory.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Wherever the voice of the muezzin reaches, forgiveness is granted due to his blessing, because every wet and dry thing bears witness in his favor. And for the one who participates in the congregational prayer, twenty-five good deeds are written, and the interval between two prayers becomes an expiation.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Imam is appointed so that he may be followed, so when he says the takbeer, you should also say the takbeer; when he bows (in ruku), you should also bow; when he says "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah," you should say "Rabbana lakal hamd"; and when he performs the prayer sitting, then all of you should also perform the prayer sitting.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that recitation is done in every prayer. However, in those prayers in which the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited aloud to us, we too will recite aloud to you, and in those in which he recited quietly, we too will recite quietly.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (Every human has a share in adultery, thus) the eyes also commit adultery, the hands also commit adultery, and the private part either confirms or denies it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was once walking on a road in Makkah until he reached a place called Jamdan. He said, "This is Jamdan, move on, and the 'Mufarridun' have gone ahead." The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who are the Mufarridun?" He replied, "Those who remember Allah abundantly." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O Allah, forgive those who shave their heads." The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! Pray for those who trim their hair as well." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again said, "O Allah, forgive those who shave their heads." The third time, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) included those who trim their hair in his supplication.

It is narrated with the same chain that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Resurrection, the rightful will be given their rights, to the extent that the hornless goat will be given retribution from the horned goat "which had struck it with its horn."

It is narrated with the previous chain that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade that a man should send his proposal of marriage over the proposal of his brother, or conduct his sale over the sale of his brother.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The intensity of heat is due to the effect of the heat of Hell, therefore perform the prayer when it becomes cooler.

It is narrated with the previous chain that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: When Satan hears the call to prayer (adhan), he runs away loudly passing wind so that he does not hear the adhan.

It is narrated from the previous chain that the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) said: I have been given superiority over other prophets in six things. Someone asked, O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), what are those things? He said: I have been given concise and comprehensive speech, I have been helped through awe, spoils of war have been made lawful for me, the earth has been made pure and a mosque for me, I have been sent to all of creation, and the line of prophets has been ended with me. (It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace be upon him, said:) The example of me and the prophets before me is like that of a man who built a very beautiful and complete building, except that he left a space for one brick in one of its corners. People would walk around it, marvel at it, and say: We have never seen a more splendid building than this, except for the place of that brick. So I am that brick.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This pulpit of mine will be at one of the gates of Paradise, and the area between my pulpit and my chamber is one of the gardens of Paradise."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Man goes about saying, "My wealth, my wealth," whereas his wealth is only these three things: what he ate and consumed, what he wore and wore out, or what he gave in the way of Allah and made someone happy. Whatever is beyond this will be left for the people.

It is narrated with the previous chain that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade making vows and said: Nothing can be obtained before its due time through a vow; however, through a vow, wealth is extracted from a miserly person.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A Muslim has six rights over another Muslim. The companions asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), what are they?" He said: When you meet him, greet him with Salam; when he invites you, accept his invitation; when he seeks your advice, give him sincere advice; when he sneezes and says Alhamdulillah, respond to him (by saying Yarhamuk Allah); when he is ill, visit him; and when he dies, accompany his funeral.

It is narrated with the previous chain that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A disbeliever and his Muslim killer can never be together in Hell.

It is narrated with the previous chain that a man came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have some relatives with whom I maintain ties of kinship, but they sever relations with me. I treat them well, but they treat me badly. I am patient with them, but they behave ignorantly towards me." The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "If the reality is as you have described, then it is as if you are feeding them hot ashes, and as long as you remain steadfast in your conduct, there will be a helper from Allah with you."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) received the following verse of Surah Al-Baqarah: "To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. Whether you disclose what is in your hearts or conceal it, Allah will call you to account for it. Then He will forgive whom He wills and punish whom He wills, and Allah is over all things competent." This matter was very burdensome for the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), so they presented themselves before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), sat down on their knees, and said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we were not able to bear the obligations of deeds such as prayer, fasting, jihad, and charity that have been imposed upon us, but now the verse that has been revealed to you, we do not have the strength for it." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do you want to say what the Jews and Christians before you said: 'We have heard but we will not obey'? Rather, you should say: 'We have heard and we will obey. Our Lord! We seek Your forgiveness, and to You is the return.'" So the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) began to say, "We have heard and we will obey. Our Lord! We seek Your forgiveness, and to You is the return." When they acknowledged this and their tongues expressed their humility, then Allah revealed this verse: "The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], 'We make no distinction between any of His messengers.' And they say, 'We have heard and we obey. [Grant us] Your forgiveness, our Lord. To You is the [final] destination.'" When they did this, Allah abrogated the previous command and revealed this verse: "Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned." The scholars explain its interpretation as: whatever good a person does, its benefit is for him, and whatever evil he does, its harm is also for him. "Our Lord! Do not impose blame upon us if we forget or make a mistake." Allah replied, "Yes." "Our Lord! Do not lay upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us." Allah replied, "Yes." "Our Lord! Do not burden us with that which we have no ability to bear." Allah replied, "Yes." "Pardon us, forgive us, have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so help us against the disbelieving people."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to Hazrat Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was praying. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called him by his name. He turned his attention for a moment but did not reply, and after shortening his prayer and finishing it, he came to the service of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied to him and said, "Ubayy, when I called you, what prevented you from answering me?" He submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I was in prayer." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Allah has revealed to me a revelation. Have you not read this verse: 'When Allah and His Messenger call you to that which gives you life, then respond to their call'?" He submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), why not, I will not do so again." Then the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Do you wish that I teach you a surah the like of which has not been revealed in the Torah, the Psalms, the Gospel, nor even in the Qur'an itself?" I submitted, "Certainly, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)!" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I hope that you will not leave this door before you have learned it." After that, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took my hand and began to talk to me. Fearing that the conversation might end before the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the door, I began to walk slowly. When we reached near the door, I submitted, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), which is that surah which you promised to teach me?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "What do you recite in prayer?" I recited Surah Al-Fatiha. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, Allah has not revealed a surah like it in the Torah, the Psalms, the Gospel, nor even in the Qur'an itself, and this is the 'Seven Oft-Repeated Verses' (Sab‘ al-Mathani)."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Among the people before you, there was a man who, dressed in his precious robe, was walking arrogantly, boasting about himself. In the meantime, Allah caused him to be swallowed by the earth, and he will continue to sink in it until the Day of Resurrection.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If a man has been declared bankrupt and someone finds his own property with him in its original form, then he has a greater right to that property than others.

Abu Salamah says that once he saw Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) recite Surah Inshiqaq, and upon reaching the verse of prostration, he performed the prostration of recitation. I said, "I have not seen you perform prostration in this Surah before?" He replied, "If I had not seen the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) perform prostration in it, I would not have performed it either."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By swearing a false oath, goods may be sold, but the blessing is erased.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that Abul Qasim, the truthful and trustworthy (peace and blessings be upon him), said: Whoever deliberately attributes a false statement to me should make his abode in Hell.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty says, "I deal with My servant according to his expectation of Me. When My servant remembers Me, I am with him. If he remembers Me in his heart, I also remember him in My heart. If he remembers Me in a gathering, I remember him in a better gathering. If he comes near Me by a handspan, I come near him by an arm's length. If he comes near Me by an arm's length, I come near him by a fathom. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When Allah loves a servant, He says to Jibreel (peace be upon him): "I love such-and-such servant, so you also love him." Thus, Jibreel begins to love him. Then Jibreel (peace be upon him) announces to the inhabitants of the heavens: "Your Lord loves such-and-such person, so you also love him." Consequently, all the inhabitants of the heavens begin to love him, and then acceptance for him is placed among the people of the earth. And when Allah dislikes a servant, He also calls Jibreel (peace be upon him) and says: "O Jibreel! I dislike such-and-such servant, so you also dislike him." And Jibreel (peace be upon him) announces to the inhabitants of the heavens: "Your Lord dislikes such-and-such person, so you also dislike him." Thus, all the inhabitants of the heavens begin to dislike him, and then this dislike is placed in the hearts of the people of the earth.

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that after the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), no person more virtuous than Hazrat Ja'far bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) ever wore or put on shoes, rode a mount, or adorned himself with the best clothes in generosity and open-handedness.
