Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him)—one of whom attributed this to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and the other to Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him)—that they forbade the use of pitchers, pitch-covered gourds, and Hantham for drinks.

I received seven dates, one of which was spoiled. In my view, it was the best among them all, as I had to chew it with difficulty (and my gums and teeth were moving).

The narrator asked about the meaning of "losing ablution," so he replied: Passing wind, whether softly or loudly.

The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became very angry and said: If someone were to offer a man a bone or two hooves in front of the people, they would surely accept it, but they sit in their homes leaving the prayer. I had intended to order a man to go out in search of those who stay in their homes leaving the prayer and set their houses on fire.

Whoever obeys the leader has obeyed me, and whoever disobeys the leader has disobeyed me. And the leader is like a shield, so when he says the takbeer, you should also say the takbeer; when he bows (in ruku‘), you should also bow; when he says "Sami‘ Allahu liman hamidah," you should say "Rabbana lakal hamd," because whoever’s saying coincides with that of the angels, his sins are forgiven. And when he prays sitting, then all of you should also pray sitting.

Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the companions (may Allah be pleased with them), "Buy a camel of the same age as his camel and give it to him." The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) searched but could not find a camel of the required age; every camel was older than that. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Then buy an older camel and give it to him. The best among you is the one who is best in repaying debts."
