It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with him) to Khaybar so that he could set an estimate for the people living there. Then he gave them the choice to accept it or reject it, but those people said that this is correct and upon this promise the heavens and the earth are established.

When Hajjaj bin Yusuf martyred Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him), he sent a messenger to Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) to ask at what time the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would depart on that day (the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah). He replied, "When we depart from here, it will be at that very hour." Upon hearing this, Hajjaj sent a man to observe at what time Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) would depart. When Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) intended to depart, he asked, "Has the sun set?" The people replied, "No." After a short while, he asked again, and the people replied, "Not yet." When the people said that the sun had set, he departed from there.

Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Jihad is a good thing, but on this occasion, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned only these things to us."

He said, “I have no inclination towards women, but I will think about it.” After that, he met Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said the same to him, but he did not reply to me. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was more upset with him than with Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). After a few days, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a marriage proposal for himself, so he married Sayyida Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Coincidentally, once he met Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said, “I presented my daughter’s marriage proposal to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him), and he gave a clear answer, but when I presented it to you, you remained silent, because of which I was more upset with you than with Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him).” Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had mentioned Sayyida Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her). I did not want to disclose the secret of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). If the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had left her, I would certainly have married her.”
