Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hasan, in the explanation of the verse of the Noble Qur'an { مُتَّکِئِینَ عَلَی رَفْرَفٍ خُضْرٍ }, says that "masnad" is meant; in the Age of Ignorance, they used to call them "masnads."

Hazrat Ikrimah says that "al-istabraq" means thick silk.

The same is narrated from Hazrat Dahhak, may Allah have mercy on him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Paradise has one hundred levels, and the distance between each two levels is as great as the distance between the sky and the earth. The highest level of Paradise is Jannat-ul-Firdous, above which is the Throne, and from it flow four rivers. When you ask Allah Almighty, ask for Jannat-ul-Firdous.

Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah be pleased with him), in the commentary of the verse { عَلَی سُرُرٍ مُتَقَابِلِینَ } of the Holy Qur'an, says that the people of Paradise will not see each other's backs.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him), in the commentary of the verse { لاَ یُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْہَا وَلاَ یُنْزِفُونَ } of the Holy Qur'an, states that neither will there be headaches nor will their intellects be impaired.

Hazrat Mujahid, in the commentary of the verse of the Holy Qur'an (wa ka’sim min ma’een), says that it will be white wine, and in the commentary of { لاَ یُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْہَا وَلاَ یُنْزِفُونَ }, he says that it will not cause them a headache nor will it intoxicate them.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) that the meaning of the verse of the Holy Qur'an { مَوْضُونَۃٍ } is that they will be made with threads of gold.

It is narrated from Hazrat Mughith that in Paradise, a bird will come and sit on a tree or on a dining spread. Then the dweller of Paradise will eat meat with gravy from one side of it and roasted from the other side.

Hazrat Abu Umamah, in the explanation of the verse of the Holy Qur'an (وَفُرُشٍ مَرْفُوعَۃٍ), says that if a bedding from above falls towards its bottom, it will reach the bottom after so many kharif (seasons/periods).

Hazrat Bara { قُطُوفُہَا دَانِیَۃٌ} relates that a person of Paradise will eat fruit while standing in his place.

Hazrat Bara { دَانِیَۃٌ} relates that fruits will be brought near them.

Hazrat Bara { وَذُلِّلَتْ قُطُوفُہَا تَذْلِیلاً } relates that they will pick its fruits from wherever they wish.

Hazrat Mujahid says that by "al-abqari" is meant thick silk.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when Allah, the Lord of Majesty, created the Garden of Eden, He said to it, "Speak with Me." Paradise said, "The believers have succeeded."

Hazrat Mujahid says that by the verse { عَلَی الأَرَائِکِ مُتَّکِئُونَ } of the Holy Qur'an is meant that they will be on couches upon which there will be anklets.

Hasan, regarding the verse of the Holy Qur'an { یُسْقَوْنَ مِنْ رَحِیقٍ مَخْتُومٍ }, says that what is meant by it is alcohol.

Hazrat Abdullah says that "ar-Rahiq" refers to wine.

Hazrat Abdullah explains the meaning of "makhtoom" that it will be mixed. Regarding "khatamahu misk," he says its taste and fragrance are meant. "Tasneem" means that there is a spring in Paradise from which only those who are near (to Allah) will drink water, and for the companions of the right, it will be mixed in.

Hazrat Malik bin Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) says regarding { وَمِزَاجُہُ مِنْ تَسْنِیمٍ ، عَیْنًا یَشْرَبُ بِہَا الْمُقَرَّبُونَ } that it will be mixed for all the inhabitants of Paradise.

Hasan, regarding the verse of the Holy Qur'an { وَمِزَاجُہُ مِنْ تَسْنِیمٍ }, says that Allah has kept it hidden for the people of Paradise.

Hazrat Dhahhak, regarding the verse of the Holy Qur'an "Khatamahu misk," states that this will be the last food of the people of Paradise.

Hazrat Ibn Sabit says that I have been informed that on the right side of the Most Merciful, while both of His hands are right, there will be a people on pulpits of light whose faces will also be radiant and they will be wearing green garments. The eyes of those who look at them will be dazzled by their sight. They will neither be prophets nor martyrs; they will be those who loved each other for the sake of Allah while Allah was being disobeyed on the earth.

It is narrated from Hazrat Alaa bin Ziyad that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There will be some servants of Allah who will not be prophets or martyrs, but the prophets and martyrs will envy them on the Day of Resurrection because of their closeness to Allah; they will be on pulpits of light. The prophets and martyrs will ask, "Who are these people?" Allah Almighty will say: These are those who used to love each other for the sake of Allah, not because of any wealth that they gave to one another, nor because of any kinship between them.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Kawthar is a river in Paradise which Allah has promised to me in Paradise. There is abundant goodness upon it. It is the reservoir upon which my Ummah will come on the Day of Resurrection; its vessels are as numerous as the stars.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Kawthar is a river in Paradise whose banks are of gold, it flows over rubies and pearls, its soil is more fragrant than musk, its water is sweeter than honey, and its water is whiter than hail.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that Kawthar is a river at the edge of Paradise. Its banks are lined with pearls, and there are vessels in it. The number of its vessels is equal to the number of stars.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty says: My love is obligatory for those who love each other for My sake; My love is obligatory for those who spend on each other for My sake; and My love is obligatory for those who meet each other for My sake. Those who love for the sake of Allah will be on pulpits of light under the shade of the Throne on the Day of Resurrection, the day when there will be no shade except His Throne.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Those who love each other for the sake of Allah will be on pillars of red ruby on the Day of Resurrection. On top of the pillars will be seventy thousand rooms; they will look upon the people of Paradise. When any one of them looks, the beauty of his face will fill the dwellings of the people of Paradise, just as the light of the sun fills the houses of the people of the world. Then a dweller of Paradise will say: Bring before us those who loved each other for the sake of Allah. Then they will be brought forth; their faces will be like the full moon of the fourteenth night. They will be wearing green garments, and on their foreheads it will be written: These are the people who loved each other for the sake of Allah.

Hazrat Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), "O Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him)! What will be the vessels of the Pond of Kawthar?" He replied: "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, its vessels are more numerous than the stars in the sky, and brighter than the stars on a dark night. Whoever drinks from it will never feel thirst again. Its width is from Oman to Aylah. Its water is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey."

It is narrated from Hazrat Thawban that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the width of the Pond of Kawthar. He said: Its width is from here to Oman, and the distance between them is about a month’s journey or as much as that. He was asked about its water. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Surely, in Paradise there is a reservoir for me whose length is from the Ka'bah to Bayt al-Maqdis, it is white like milk, its vessels are as numerous as the stars, and surely on the Day of Resurrection my followers will be more than those of the other prophets.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When I entered Paradise, I came upon a flowing river whose banks were of pearls. I struck my hand on its soil, and it was fragrant musk. I asked Hazrat Jibreel (peace be upon him), "What is this?" Hazrat Jibreel (peace be upon him) replied, "This is the Pond of Kawthar which Allah will grant to you."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah that the rivers of Paradise flow from mountains of musk.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sa'd al-Tai that when Allah Almighty created Paradise, He said to it: "Adorn yourself for Me," so it adorned itself. Then He said to it: "Adorn yourself for Me," so it adorned itself. Then He said to it: "Speak to Me." Paradise said: "Glad tidings for the person with whom You are pleased."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that one of the prophets among the prophets said to Allah Almighty: "O Allah! One of Your servants worships You, obeys You, and avoids Your displeasure, yet You distance the world from him and bring hardships close to him. And there is another servant who worships others besides You and commits acts of disobedience to You, yet You bring the world close to him and keep hardships away from him." Allah Almighty revealed to him: "All servants and cities are Mine; all glorify Me. As for the believing servant, he also has some sins, so I bring hardships close to him and distance the world from him; this becomes an expiation for his sins. And when he comes to Me, I will reward him. And as for My disbelieving servant, he also has some good deeds, so I keep calamities away from him and bring the world close to him; this becomes an expiation for his good deeds. And I will give him the punishment for his sins when he comes to Me."

Hazrat Abu Bakr bin Abdullah narrates from his father that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: In Paradise, there will be a tent of pearl for the believer, its length will be thirty miles. For the believer, his family will be in it, and some of them will not see others.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Bakr bin Abdullah that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Paradise al-Firdaus consists of four [gardens]: two are of gold—their ornaments, their vessels, and whatever is in them is of gold; and two are of silver—their ornaments, their vessels, and whatever is in them is of silver. And there will be nothing between the people and their Lord’s seeing except the veil of majesty upon His face.

Hazrat Abu Umamah, regarding the verse of the Holy Qur'an { جَنَّاتُ الْفِرْدَوْسِ نُزُلاً }, says that there will be hospitality in the midst of Paradise.

Hazrat Ka'b, regarding the verse of the Holy Qur'an { جَنَّاتُ الْفِرْدَوْسِ نُزُلاً }, states that "Jannat al-A'nab" is meant. (Gardens of grapes)
