So I drew near and said: "O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be ransomed for you, tell us of something we may adopt after you." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Make your own self your helper." I said: "How am I to do that?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave what makes you doubt for what does not make you doubt, even if a mufti gives you a fatwa." I said: "How am I to know that?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Place your hand on your heart, for the heart is at rest with what is lawful and is not at rest with what is unlawful; and the scrupulousness (wara') of a Muslim is that he leaves even a small thing for fear of falling into a big one."
