حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمُعَلَّى الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ شَابُورٍ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ، عَنْ وَاثِلَةَ بْنِ الْأَسْقَعِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أُعْطِيتُ السَّبْعَ الطُّوَلَ مَكَانَ التَّوْرَاةِ، وَأُعْطِيتُ الْمَثَانِيَ مَكَانَ الْإِنْجِيلِ، وَأُعْطِيتُ الْمِئِينَ مَكَانَ الزَّبُورِ وَفُضِّلْتَ بِالْمُفَصَّلِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Wathilah bin al-Asqa' (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In place of the Torah I was given the Seven Long (Surahs); in place of the Injil I was given the Mathani; in place of the Zabur I was given the Mi'un (the surahs of about a hundred verses); and I was granted superiority through the Mufassal (Surahs)."
