حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ بْنِ نَجْدَةَ الْحَوْطِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، حَدَّثَنِي مُبَشِّرُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنِ الْحَجَّاجِ بْنِ أَرْطَاةَ، عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ: لَقِيتُ وَاثِلَةَ بْنَ الْأَسْقَعِ فَقُلْتُ: مَا أَعْمَلَنِي إِلَى الشَّامِ غَيْرُكَ فَحَدِّثْنِي مِمَّا سَمِعْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «اللهُمَّ ارْحَمْنَا، وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا، وَنَهَانَا أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ إِلَى الْقُبُورِ، أَوْ نَجْلِسَ عَلَيْهَا»
Awn bin Abdullah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: I met Sayyiduna Wathilah bin al-Asqa' (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "Nothing but you made me travel to Syria (al-Sham); narrate to me a hadith that you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "O Allah, have mercy on us and forgive us." And he (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us to pray facing the graves or to sit on them.
