Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made it an Umrah only because they had arrived in Makkah four nights before Arafah, and he disliked that the Muslims should remain four nights without performing tawaf of the House. He knew that when they performed tawaf of the House they would come out of ihram, except whoever had brought a sacrificial animal (hady). So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is an Umrah from which we have benefited" - he said it three times - "then Umrah has entered into Hajj until the Day of Resurrection."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been given five things that were not given to any prophet before me: I have been sent to the red and the black (people of every colour and race), whereas the prophets before were sent only to their own particular people; I have been aided by awe, so that the enemy fears me even at a distance of a month or two months' journey; the spoils of war have been made lawful for me, while they were not lawful for anyone before me; the whole earth has been made for me a place of prostration and a means of purification; and it was said to me: 'Ask, and you will be given.' So I have saved my supplication as intercession for my Ummah, and it will reach, if Allah wills, everyone who died without associating anything with Allah."

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood over Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) and saw his condition, he said: "Were it not that the women would grieve, I would not have covered him like this; I would have left him until he was in the bellies of the beasts of prey and the crops of the birds, until Allah resurrects him from there." The narrator said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) was deeply grieved by the condition he saw him in, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If I gain victory over Quraysh, I will surely mutilate (muthlah) thirty of their men." So Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed concerning that: "And if you retaliate, then retaliate with the like of that with which you were harmed" [al-Nahl: 126] up to "what they plot" [al-Nahl: 127]. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the order, and he was laid facing the qiblah. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said nine takbirs over him. Then he gathered the other martyrs with him; whenever a martyr was brought, he was placed beside Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would offer the funeral prayer over him and over the other martyrs, until he (peace and blessings be upon him) had offered the funeral prayer over him and the other martyrs seventy-two times. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) stood over his Companions until they were buried. When the Qur'an was revealed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forgave, overlooked, and abandoned the intention of mutilation.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go out on jihad, and you will gain the daughters of al-Asfar (Byzantine women) as spoils." Some of the hypocrites said: "He will put us to trial through women." So Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this verse: "And among them is he who says: Permit me and do not put me to trial" [al-Tawbah: 49].

Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) held that making an exception (that is, saying "In sha' Allah") is permissible even if it is after a year. Then he recited this verse: "And never say of anything, 'I will do that tomorrow,' except (adding) 'if Allah wills.' And remember your Lord when you forget" [Al-Kahf: 24]. He would say: "That is, when you remember." Al-A'mash was asked: Did you hear this from Mujahid? He said: Layth narrated it to me from Mujahid.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that some young men of Banu Hashim came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Appoint us to collect this charity (sadaqah); we will receive from it what people receive, and we will discharge (the duty) as they discharge it. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Charity is not lawful for us, the family of Muhammad; it is the dirt of people. But what do you think: when I take hold of the ring (of the door) of Paradise, will I give anyone preference over you?"
