حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ رَبِيعَةِ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ، مَوْلَى الْمُنْبَعِثِ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، قَالَ: جَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ، فَقَالَ: " عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً، ثُمَّ اعْرِفْ عِفَاصَهَا وَوِكَاءَهَا - أَوْ قَالَ: وِعَاءَهَا - فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا فَادْفَعْهَا إِلَيْهِ وَإِلَّا فَاسْتَنْفِقْهَا أَوِ اسْتَمْتِعْ بِهَا "
قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ضَالَّةُ الْغَنَمِ؟ قَالَ: «إِنَّمَا هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»
قَالَ: فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْإِبِلِ فَتَغَيَّرَ وَجْهُهُ، فَقَالَ: «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا؟ مَعَهَا حِذَاؤُهَا وَسِقَاؤُهَا، وَتَرِدُّ الْمَاءَ وَتَأْكُلُ الشَّجَرَ، دَعْهَا حَتَّى يَلْقَاهَا رَبُّهَا»
قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ضَالَّةُ الْغَنَمِ؟ قَالَ: «إِنَّمَا هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»
قَالَ: فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْإِبِلِ فَتَغَيَّرَ وَجْهُهُ، فَقَالَ: «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا؟ مَعَهَا حِذَاؤُهَا وَسِقَاؤُهَا، وَتَرِدُّ الْمَاءَ وَتَأْكُلُ الشَّجَرَ، دَعْهَا حَتَّى يَلْقَاهَا رَبُّهَا»
Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A Bedouin came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him about a found item (luqatah), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Announce it for one year, then take note of its bag and the cord it is tied with (or he said: its container). If its owner comes, give it to him; otherwise, spend it or make use of it."
He asked: O Messenger of Allah, what is the ruling on a stray sheep? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf."
Then he asked about a stray camel, and the expression on his (peace and blessings be upon him) face changed, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What have you to do with it? It has its feet and its water-skin with it; it goes to the water and eats from the trees. Leave it until its owner finds it."
He asked: O Messenger of Allah, what is the ruling on a stray sheep? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf."

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ رَبِيعَةِ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ، مَوْلَى الْمُنْبَعِثِ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ؟ فَقَالَ: «اعْرِفْ عِفَاصَهَا وَوِكَاءَهَا، ثُمَّ عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً، فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا، وَإِلَّا فَشَأْنُكَ بِهَا»
قَالَ: فَضَالَةُ الْغَنَمِ؟ قَالَ: «لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»
قَالَ: فَضَالَةُ الْإِبِلِ؟ قَالَ: «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا؟ مَعَهَا سِقَاؤُهَا وَحِذَاؤُهَا، تَرِدُ الْمَاءَ وَتَأْكُلُ الشَّجَرَ حَتَّى يَلْقَاهَا رَبُّهَا»
قَالَ: فَضَالَةُ الْغَنَمِ؟ قَالَ: «لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»
قَالَ: فَضَالَةُ الْإِبِلِ؟ قَالَ: «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا؟ مَعَهَا سِقَاؤُهَا وَحِذَاؤُهَا، تَرِدُ الْمَاءَ وَتَأْكُلُ الشَّجَرَ حَتَّى يَلْقَاهَا رَبُّهَا»
Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him about a found item (luqatah), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take note of its bag and the cord it is tied with, then announce it for one year. If its owner comes, [give it to him]; otherwise, it is yours."

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ، ثنا سَهْلُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْمَكِّيُّ، ثنا ابْنُ عَائِشَةَ، قَالُوا: ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، وَرَبِيعَةَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ، مَوْلَى الْمُنْبَعِثِ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْإِبِلِ؟ فَقَالَ: «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا؟ مَعَهَا سِقَاؤُهَا وَحِذَاؤُهَا، تَأْكُلُ الشَّجَرَ وَتَرِدُ الْمَاءَ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهَا بَاغِيهَا»
ثُمَّ سَأَلَهُ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْغَنَمِ؟ فَقَالَ: «هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»
ثُمَّ سَأَلَهُ عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ؟ فَقَالَ: «اعْرِفْ عِفَاصَهَا وَعَدَدَهَا، فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا فَعَرَفَهَا فَادْفَعْهَا إِلَيْهِ، وَإِلَّا فَهِي لَكَ»
ثُمَّ سَأَلَهُ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْغَنَمِ؟ فَقَالَ: «هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»
ثُمَّ سَأَلَهُ عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ؟ فَقَالَ: «اعْرِفْ عِفَاصَهَا وَعَدَدَهَا، فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا فَعَرَفَهَا فَادْفَعْهَا إِلَيْهِ، وَإِلَّا فَهِي لَكَ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about a stray camel, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What have you to do with it? It has its water-skin and its feet with it; it eats from the trees and goes to the water until the one seeking it finds it."
Then he asked about a stray sheep, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf."
Then he asked about a found item (luqatah), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take note of its bag and its number. If its owner comes and identifies it, give it to him; otherwise, it is yours."
Then he asked about a stray sheep, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf."
Then he asked about a found item (luqatah), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take note of its bag and its number. If its owner comes and identifies it, give it to him; otherwise, it is yours."
حَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ مُوسَى، عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ، مَوْلَى الْمُنْبَعِثِ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَخْبِرْنِي عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ؟ فَقَالَ: «اعْرِفْ عِفَاصَهَا وَوِكَاءَهَا، ثُمَّ عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً، فَإِنْ أَتَى بَاغِيهَا فَرُدَّهَا عَلَيْهِ، وَإِلَّا فَاسْتَنْفِقْهَا»
قَالَ: فَأَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْغَنَمِ؟ قَالَ: «خُذْهَا فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»
قَالَ: فَأَخْبِرْنِي عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْإِبِلِ؟ فَغَضِبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى احْمَرَّتْ وَجْنَتَاهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا؟ مَعَهَا حِذَاؤُهَا وَسِقَاؤُهَا، تَرِدُ الْمَاءَ وَتَأْكُلُ الشَّجَرَ، دَعْهَا حَتَّى يَلْقَاهَا صَاحِبُهَا»

حَدَّثَنَا حَامِدُ بْنُ سَعْدَانَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ، ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ غَزِيَّةَ، أَنَّ رَبِيعَةَ بْنَ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، أَخْبَرَهُ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ، مَوْلَى الْمُنْبَعِثِ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْغَنَمِ؟ فَقَالَ: «هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»

وَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْإِبِلِ؟ فَقَالَ: «مَا لَكَ وَلِضَالَةِ الْإِبِلِ؟ مَعَهَا سِقَاؤُهَا وَحِذَاؤُهَا، تَرِدُ الْمَاءَ وَتَأْكُلُ الشَّجَرَ، أَتْرُكُهَا حَتَّى يَلْقَاهَا رَبُّهَا»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) that he asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about a stray sheep, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf."
And he asked him (peace and blessings be upon him) about a stray camel, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What have you to do with a stray camel? It has its water-skin and its feet with it; it goes to the water and eats from the trees. I leave it until its owner finds it."

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ رِشْدِينَ الْمِصْرِيُّ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ثنا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، أَنَّ رَبِيعَةَ بْنَ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، حَدَّثَهُ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ، مَوْلَى الْمُنْبَعِثِ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، قَالَ: أَتَى رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا مَعَهُ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، اللُّقَطَةُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً، فَإِنْ لَمْ يَأْتِ لَهَا طَالِبٌ فَاسْتَنْفِقْهَا»
فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَكَيْفَ تَرَى فِي ضَالَّةِ الْغَنَمِ؟ قَالَ: «هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»
قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَكَيْفَ تَرَى فِي ضَالَّةِ الْإِبِلِ؟ قَالَ: فَغَضِبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى احْمَرَّ وَجْهُهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا؟ مَعَهَا حِذَاؤُهَا وَسِقَاؤُهَا، وَتَرِدُ الْمَاءَ وَتَأْكُلُ الشَّجَرَ، حَتَّى يَلْقَاهَا رَبُّهَا»
فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، فَكَيْفَ تَرَى فِي ضَالَّةِ الْغَنَمِ؟ قَالَ: «هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»

حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ السَّدُوسِيُّ، ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي رَبِيعَةُ بْنُ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ، مَوْلَى الْمُنْبَعِثِ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ؟ فَقَالَ: «عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً، ثُمَّ اعْرِفْ وِكَاءَهَا، ثُمَّ اسْتَنْفِقْ بِهَا، فَإِنْ جَاءَ رَبُّهَا فَأَدِّهَا إِلَيْهِ»

He said: O Messenger of Allah, what is the ruling on a stray sheep? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take it, for it is for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf."
He said: O Messenger of Allah, what is the ruling on a stray camel? At this the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry until his (peace and blessings be upon him) cheeks (or he said: his face) turned red, then he said: "What have you to do with it? It has its feet and its water-skin with it, until its owner finds it."
He said: O Messenger of Allah, what is the ruling on a stray sheep? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take it, for it is for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf."

حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمَدِينِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، وَرَبِيعَةَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا تَقُولُ فِي ضَالَّةِ الْإِبِلِ؟ فَغَضِبَ وَاحْمَرَّتْ وَجْنَتَاهُ، قَالَ: «مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا؟ مَعَهَا الْحِذَاءُ وَالسِّقَاءُ، تَأْكُلُ مِنَ الشَّجَرِ وَتُشْرَبُ مِنَ الْمَاءِ، حَتَّى يَجِدَهَا رَبُّهَا»
قَالَ: فَضَالَةُ الْغَنَمِ؟ قَالَ: «لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»
قَالَ: فَاللُّقَطَةُ؟ قَالَ: «اعْرِفْ عِفَاصَهَا وَوِكَاءَهَا، ثُمَّ عَرِّفْهَا، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَعْرِفْ فَاخْلِطْهَا بِمَالِكَ»
قَالَ: فَضَالَةُ الْغَنَمِ؟ قَالَ: «لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ»
قَالَ: فَاللُّقَطَةُ؟ قَالَ: «اعْرِفْ عِفَاصَهَا وَوِكَاءَهَا، ثُمَّ عَرِّفْهَا، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَعْرِفْ فَاخْلِطْهَا بِمَالِكَ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, what do you say about a stray camel? At this he (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry and his (peace and blessings be upon him) cheeks turned red, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What have you to do with it? It has its feet and its water-skin with it; it eats from the trees and drinks water until its owner finds it."
He said: What is the ruling on a stray sheep? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf."
He said: What is the ruling on a found item (luqatah)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take note of its bag and the cord it is tied with, then announce it. If it is not identified, mix it with your own wealth."
He said: What is the ruling on a stray sheep? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf."
He said: What is the ruling on a found item (luqatah)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take note of its bag and the cord it is tied with, then announce it. If it is not identified, mix it with your own wealth."
حَدَّثَنَا مُصْعَبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ حَمْزَةَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ، مَوْلَى الْمُنْبَعِثِ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلَهُ.
A similar hadith is also narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him).

وَسُئِلَ عَنْ ضَالَّةِ الْبَعِيرِ؟ فَغَضِبَ وَاحْمَرَّ وَجْهُهُ، وَقَالَ: «مَعَهُ حِذَاؤُهُ وسِقَاؤُهُ، يَرِدُ الْمَاءَ وَيَرْعَى الشَّجَرَ»

Then he was asked about a stray camel, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry and his (peace and blessings be upon him) face turned red, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It has its feet and its water-skin with it; it goes to the water and grazes on the trees."
Then he was asked about a found item (luqatah), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Announce it for one year. If its owner comes, give it to him; otherwise, take note of the cord it is tied with or its bag, then add it to your own wealth. If its owner comes later, it should be given to him."
Then he was asked about a stray camel, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry and his (peace and blessings be upon him) face turned red, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It has its feet and its water-skin with it; it goes to the water and grazes on the trees."
