Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about a stray sheep, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf."
Then he was asked about a stray camel, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry and his (peace and blessings be upon him) face turned red, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It has its feet and its water-skin with it; it goes to the water and grazes on the trees."
Then he was asked about a found item (luqatah), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Announce it for one year. If its owner comes, give it to him; otherwise, take note of the cord it is tied with or its bag, then add it to your own wealth. If its owner comes later, it should be given to him."
