It is narrated from Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "If any man living in the upper outlying districts of Madinah (al-Awali) invited the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the middle of the night merely to eat barley bread, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would accept his invitation."
The chain of this hadith is jayyid (good), and it indicates the perfect character, asceticism and utmost humility of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in that he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not turn down even the modest invitation of an ordinary person, despite his living in a distant area.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never once stretched out his knees (casually or indifferently) in front of anyone sitting with him. Nor did it ever happen that he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave his blessed hand to someone to shake hands and then pulled his hand away himself, until the other person let go of it himself. And never did anyone come and sit with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and he (peace and blessings be upon him) (out of consideration for him) got up and left, until that person himself got up and left."

By Allah! Even on a bitterly cold morning, if a slave, a slave-girl or a child brought him (peace and blessings be upon him) water so that he (peace and blessings be upon him) could wash his blessed face and forearms with it, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would never refuse. Whenever someone asking came close to his (peace and blessings be upon him) ear to say something, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would listen to him with full attention and would not turn his radiant face away from him until that person moved away himself. And whenever any person took hold of his (peace and blessings be upon him) blessed hand (to shake hands), he (peace and blessings be upon him) would give his hand to him and would not withdraw it until that person himself let go of his (peace and blessings be upon him) hand."

He (peace and blessings be upon him) looked here and there (for a place to put it) but did not find anything (a vessel, a raised seat or the like) in which it could be placed.
