It is narrated from Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "If any man living in the upper outlying districts of Madinah (al-Awali) invited the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the middle of the night merely to eat barley bread, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would accept his invitation."
The chain of this hadith is jayyid (good), and it indicates the perfect character, asceticism and utmost humility of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in that he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not turn down even the modest invitation of an ordinary person, despite his living in a distant area.
