It is narrated from Imam al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) that a crow with very large, outspread wings was brought to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), and he (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "No game is caught, no thorny tree is cut down, and no intertwined branch or root is severed, except because of deficiency and heedlessness in tasbih (declaring Allah's purity)." Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) set the crow free.
This report is mu'dal or mursal, and its narrator al-Hakam bin Abdullah is severely da'if (weak).
(133) The hadith of Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) on the virtue of 'Subhan Allahi wa bihamdihi' (Allah is free of all imperfection, with His praise) is found in the Book of Manners, in the chapter on the condemnation of arrogance (kibr).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "Whenever I narrate a hadith to you, I will also tell you its confirmation from the Book of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic." He said: "No servant says 'Subhan Allah, wal-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illa Allah, wa Allahu akbar, wa tabarak Allah' (Allah is free of all imperfection, all praise belongs to Allah, there is no god worthy of worship except Allah, Allah is the Greatest, and blessed is Allah) except that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, appoints an angel over these words who enfolds them beneath his wings and ascends with them to the heaven. He does not pass by any group of angels except that they seek forgiveness for the one who said them, until he greets with them the Face of the Most Merciful, the Mighty and Majestic." Then Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: "To Him ascends the good word, and righteous deeds raise it" [Surah Fatir: 10].
Al-Hakim recorded it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "For me to utter with my tongue the words 'Subhan Allah, wal-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illa Allah, wa Allahu akbar' (Allah is free of all imperfection, all praise belongs to Allah, there is no god worthy of worship except Allah, and Allah is the Greatest) is far dearer to me than spending the same number (of dirhams and dinars) in the path of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic."
This is an authentic mawquf report (athar), and Ibn Abi Shaybah recorded it.

It is narrated from a man that he said to a faqih (a scholar of insight) in Makkah: "We have a faqih among us, by whom I mean Imam al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him), and whenever he falls silent from speaking, his constant litany and habitual phrase is simply this: 'Subhan Allahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan Allahil-Azim' (Allah is free of all imperfection, with His praise; Allah the Most Magnificent is free of all imperfection)." So he (the scholar of Makkah) said: "Indeed, this companion of yours is a great faqih, for no servant says these words seven times except that a house is built for him in Paradise."
[Ibn Abi Shaybah recorded it in al-Musannaf: 30408. This saying describes the virtue of Imam al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) and his habit of constant remembrance.]

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever says 'La ilaha illa Allah' (there is no god worthy of worship except Allah) one hundred times, says 'Allahu akbar' (Allah is the Greatest) one hundred times, and says 'Subhan Allah' (Allah is free of every fault and imperfection) one hundred times, this deed is certainly better for him than freeing ten slaves and slaughtering seven sacrificial camels."
Abu Ya'la recorded this hadith in his Musnad. Its chain contains the narrator Salamah bin Wardan, who is da'if (weak) according to the majority of hadith scholars; however, other authentic hadith exist as supporting witnesses (shawahid) for the virtue of these adhkar.

Abu Ya'la recorded this hadith in his Musnad. The hadith scholars have declared its narrator Musa bin Ubaydah al-Rabadhi da'if (weak).
