It is narrated from a man that he said to a faqih (a scholar of insight) in Makkah: "We have a faqih among us, by whom I mean Imam al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him), and whenever he falls silent from speaking, his constant litany and habitual phrase is simply this: 'Subhan Allahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan Allahil-Azim' (Allah is free of all imperfection, with His praise; Allah the Most Magnificent is free of all imperfection)." So he (the scholar of Makkah) said: "Indeed, this companion of yours is a great faqih, for no servant says these words seven times except that a house is built for him in Paradise."
[Ibn Abi Shaybah recorded it in al-Musannaf: 30408. This saying describes the virtue of Imam al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) and his habit of constant remembrance.]
