It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "For me to utter with my tongue the words 'Subhan Allah, wal-hamdu lillah, wa la ilaha illa Allah, wa Allahu akbar' (Allah is free of all imperfection, all praise belongs to Allah, there is no god worthy of worship except Allah, and Allah is the Greatest) is far dearer to me than spending the same number (of dirhams and dinars) in the path of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic."
This is an authentic mawquf report (athar), and Ibn Abi Shaybah recorded it.
